Look, it was going to be changed. Giving in to outrage mobs like this sets a shitty precedent

The flag should represent the people in the state.

There are a lot of Black people in the south. Maybe they don’t want this part of history history flying over them today

So put it to a vote.

Polling on the issue.
Talking to literally any black person in MS.

Your logic here is laughable. You didn’t see any “widespread protest” until the abolitionist movement went into full swing. Does that mean people were fine with slavery?

Anecdotal but I've talked to many who displayed the battle flag itself and didnt give a damn.

But that’s a different context, and I’m sure they have their reasons.

The context of the MS state flag is racial given the politics around it being selected.

Nearly every argument I've seen against the flag is because it features the Confederate battle flag.

It’s so sad that outsiders who have basically the same flag want to chime in. Our flag is going to change, it’s been on the chopping block before the Ncaa came in.

I don’t mind a flag change, most everyone here says it’s time. What gets me are people outside who act like they are above it all including clowns from northern or west coast Universities who are just now finding out they’ve got issues of their own going back 200 years.

And now the rioters are so crazy they are going after statues that have nothing to do with racism etc.

Look at what they are going after lol. Oh, and Stevie Ray Vaughan statue has been hit. Not sure what he did but apparently being a white blues player is good enough.

If Mississippi had any balls, they would file a lawsuit against the NCAA and cusa. Then tell everyone exactly what you said.

If they want to change the flag, fine. But the changing of a state flag SHOULD NEVER be forced upon you from a private outside entity.

Then it shouldn’t be a problem to put it on a ballot and let the people vote should it?

Why? It wasn't ever voted on by the people to become our state flag. Yeah, 20 years ago people voted to keep it. But, people have been wanting it gone. Oh, I know, iTs NoT hAtE, iTs My HeRiTaGe.

The MS declaration of succession made it very clear what that heritage was about:
"Our position is thoroughly identified with the institution of slavery-- the greatest material interest of the world."

All of the hicks getting their panties in a wad over the fact that the flag is going to change need to get over it and realize the confederates lost.

Anytime someone doubts the power of college football in the south just remind them that a slimy Nebraskan and a weirdo from California whom combined have lived in Mississippi for less than a year led the charge in doing something that nobody since the civil war could do, change Mississippi's flag.

Actually, the current state flag has only been in use since 1894.

The biggest candidate to replace the current flag actually flew over Mississippi during the Civil War.

So everytime some people want something, you just give it to them? Despite the fact that 2/3 of the votes cast in 2001 were in favor of keeping it?

Simpleminded take, this has nothing to do with the Civil War.

I'm saying the current uproar has nothing to do with the Civil War.

Also not sure what the flag of the Army of Northern Virginia has to with anything.

People wanting that flag changed is not a sudden, current thing. The events taking place are, however, forcing people to realize the reality that having a Confederate symbol on the state flag is just f'ing stupid.
