We recently sent a records request to @msstate
for Mike Leach's e-mails and text messages, in the wake of his tweeting a racist coronavirus meme. Now, MSU wants to charge us a pro-rated amount of @Coach_Leach
's multi-million-$ salary for him to search his texts.

You think this is going to get any better? It won't. Because people that are for this will start a cause to silence you even bringing it up and we will allow them do it.
They are gong to sue for the records:

It's actually @msstate
's responsibility to ensure that text & email data is backed up & stored per MDAH requirements (retention).
Members of the press should not be charged extra just because a public body hasn't followed its obligations per state law.
Make that case in court.

FOIA laws state that the request or may have to pay for costs associated with retrieving information.

There are a million different things that the press can report on, but they choose to focus on things like this because racism and social justices are the flavors in today's American news media outlets. "Journalistic integrity" as we know it as all but dead and gone. Today, it's all about who lands the next, big, emotional, and woke story.
