Finally getting out of Albuquerque, I know Fairhope is nice, but looking on advice on where to look at buying if we want land and fewer neighbors. I haven't spent any time in South Alabama, I'm a Huntsville guy.

Luckily it's a paid move and they're covering 3 months Airbnb, so we've got time to look, just wondering where you guys would concentrate if you don't want to live the HOA lifestyle.

Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

What's wrong with HOAs?

You can spread out pretty much anywhere out of the actual town part of Fairhope. If you want to be closer to town but more rural, look south of town and on or east of hwy 3.

Nothing, just doesn't fit our lifestyle and we want more than 1/4 acre.

It's a beautiful state, but Albuquerque has too much dysfunction to raise a family in. Plus, we want to be close to family for our kids sake.

It's top 10 along with the likes of Memphis, Little Rock, Detroit, Saint Louis... I've personally had two vehicle break ins and one home break in, and I've only been here 3 years. Homeless, strung out people at almost every major intersection.

Oh, and schools are abysmal.

There are neighborhoods with large lots, or you can find something more rural. How big of a house are y’all looking for? In between Daphne and Fairhope there’s a small stretch of land east of 98 that might fit what you’re looking for

First post since 2011. Now that's a long build.

I have a buddy in Robertsdale/Silverhill area. He's been there a while and I think he likes it.

Putting my folks’ house on the market later this summer. Its just outside of Silverhill on 2 heavily wooded acres. Originally built as a 3-bedroom/2 bath in 1995, my folks added a lockoff bedroom/bath with a separate entrance when my sister and her family moved in with them in 2009. We have a realtor coming out next week to get exact room measurements.

Fairhope/Daphne area is very nice but has gotten pricey. Silverhill is very quiet and centrally located to all the area attractions.

Let me know if you want to hear more. Would love to keep the AU flag flying there

I'm a home inspector, I can work from anywhere, she has a very specific job that requires specific localities.

Foley is my second choice for a place to retire.

Close to the bay for fishing close to the beach and housing prices are not ridiculous.

My first choice is Albertville but I still have some work to do on the wife.

I live in The Colony. You can't buy property in Fairhope, you lease it from The Colony. I love living in Fairhope. Will never move again. Son goes to Fairhope Elementary.

The Baldwin County Alumni Club's game watching parties are in Fairhope. I'll buy you a cold one!
