The way I understand it it's as much about the politics as the money. Contrary to popular belief, our basketball program has some deeeeeep pocketed boosters. It's just that there aren't nearly as many of them as there are big money FOGs, and the big money FOGs have way more influence behind the scenes. Unfortunately the odds of that changing anytime soon are exceedingly slim.

NET formula is changing....anyone wanna post the new formula?

and simplify it by reducing a five-component metric to just two. The remaining factors include the Team Value Index (TVI), which is a result-based feature that rewards teams for beating quality opponents, particularly away from home, as well as an adjusted net efficiency rating.
quote:
No longer will the NET use winning percentage, adjusted winning percentage and scoring margin. The change was made after the committee consulted with Google Cloud Professional Services, which worked with the NCAA to develop the original NET.
quote:
the overall and non-conference strength of schedule has been modernized to reflect a truer measure for how hard it is to defeat opponents. The strength of schedule is based on rating every game on a team's schedule for how hard it would be for an NCAA tournament-caliber team to win. It considers opponent strength and site of each game, assigning each game a difficulty score. Aggregating these across all games results in an overall expected win percentage versus a team's schedule, which can be ranked to get a better measure of the strength of schedule.

According to a tweet by Cecil, the new NET appears to reward beating the hell out of an opponent in the last 5 minutes. Running up the score as it were. I really don't like that, but I guess I should be happy about it as it should reward teams like us where scoring a lot and doing it fast is the objective instead of defense.

It sounds like it's basically going to be Ken Pom but with penalties for home losses and rewards for road wins.
I don't like that much (and I love KP). It's going to reward a lot of mediocre teams that play in good leagues (see the entire bottom half of the B10 last year).
However, selfishly, we ALWAYS end up higher in KenPom than we do in RPI/NET because we are chokers who lose lots of close games - so our efficiency figures are generally solid. ROW TAHD!

Galin to transfer to Maryland. All I can say is WOW! He must attend the Joey Freshwater school on how to fall up.

They’ve been desperate for a big man.

Yeah they really just needed a body at this point. Missing on Bruner hurt them bad.

His 0.5 PPG, 1.5 RPG, and correctly catching 1.6 out of every 10 balls thrown to him puts them over the hump for a possible Sweet 16 run.

But look at how much he will boost their fouls inside. He's a steal if you want a double/double on fouls and turnovers. But I am happy for the guy. We can bash him all we want, but the kid did bust his arse for us. That's more than we can say for some of our more talented bigs.

Now watch Alabama meet up with Maryland in the Elite 8 and Galin hits a game winning baby hook.

Mo Williams is the new head basketball coach for Alabama State.
I wonder if Pettway will eventually look towards the HBCU route or if he’s content being a lifelong Alabama assistant?

There are a lot of people that would like to have his job. Im sure he works his but off, but the pay is pretty good, plus Pettway is somewhat of a celeb in this state. I hope Mo is successful though.

The question is... if you could guarantee an Elite 8 appearance, would you be okay with it ending this way?

Which ever big man we have that is guarding Galin during that winning baby hook shot should immediately be cut from the team. It’s the ONLY move he has, how can you possibly give that move to him lol

I hope Mo does well. I used to love to watch him play. Who knows? Maybe he ends up back at the Capstone in some capacity.
