NCAA's reply to Kansas--Bull crap. You are guilty as hell.

He would fit in well in VCU's system, could get some solid PT too since they just lost Santos Silva.

The Oats/Hurley connection makes ASU interesting.

Oats is one hell of a salesman. The fact that any of those schools are after him is surprising to me. The fact that Maryland is is incredibly confusing. Aren’t they pretty stacked next year?

His list caught me off guard a little.
I was expecting Conference USA type schools at best tbh.

I thought he’d go to a Southern Miss type school and stay in the south. Power conference schools were not what I was expecting
Posted on 5/7/20 at 7:29 pm to Chadaristic
Yeah, I’m pretty shocked he got schools that good.

That list made me audibly gasp LOL
Good for him

Yeah I remember Maryland fans upset pretty upset about us getting Bruner because they need a big inside. I didn't think they were Galin Smith desperate for a big.
And if I'm in Galin's situation, I'm headed west where all the ASU sloots are.

Byrne also went in depth on Coleman Coliseum plans, saying upgrades to Bryant-Denny are needed to pay for basketball facilities. He also left open the possibility of a “new arena” entirely.
Wut

Byrne: “The revenue from what we’re doing in Phase I gives us the opportunity to go to Phase II and hopefully Phase III. Coleman Coliseum, to renovate it, to build a new basketball arena, when you do the financial modeling -- which we have a financial and fiduciary responsibility to manage our resources -- it does not stand alone. The revenue that we generate from a new arena or a renovation can’t pay for the renovation or new arena. It would have a significant, negative financial impact on our department. So that revenue from Phase I of Bryant-Denny Stadium, what we’re doing there is the springboard to allow us to go to Coleman. We said Coleman, we’re planning on Coleman, but as we continue to get -- when we introduced everything with the “Crimson Standard,” one of the things I said very publicly, and I’m going to say it again today, this plan is fluid. When we announced [the plan], I said it will look different 12 months from now, just like it looked different from 12 months earlier. And so we have to do something from a basketball and gymnastics standpoint to set our programs up for the next 30 years. That is really important. I’m 48 years old. I really want to retire at Alabama. That’s my goal. I know we have to address this. Now what has happened in the last seven weeks, there’s a lot of unknowns right now. So it wouldn’t be honest on my part if I said, ‘Hey, we’re gonna get this thing going in the next year.’ What I can tell you is that we are actively raising money to address Coleman Coliseum and to help our men’s and women’s basketball programs and gymnastics program for the long haul. It’s really important and we got to make sure we do it in a manner that allows the financial health of our department to stay strong for a long time.”

Maybe it's just my Bama basketball induced PTSD, but I read that as "we're going to slap some really fancy lipstick on this pig in 3 or 4 years."
It's starting to feel like the whole Crimson Standard thing was just a big football fundraiser where other programs would get bit of money for upgrades if there was anything leftover.

I think a lot of us felt that way from the beginning, but we allowed ourselves to be convinced otherwise because of how desperate we’ve become.
I like Byrne a lot and think he would absolutely dump money into a new arena if it was his decision alone, but we all know that isn’t the case regardless of his position or title.

The fact that he's saying they need football revenue to complete the project makes it pretty obvious that they got all the big money donations they were ever going to get to fund phase one, which was primarily BDS with a small allocation to other projects. But it'll take years to generate enough excess revenue from those upgrades to fund a major upgrade to Coleman. And that's assuming that 100% of that excess goes to funding a Coleman renovation, which we know it won't.

Ok, maybe I have my Crimson colored glasses on, but the way I read Byrne's statement (reading between the lines) was that he realizes we can't just keep bandaiding Coleman with a fresh coat of paint. And even though a "reno" was in the original plans, now that he's got the FOG's placated with more BDS money, he's going to continue to push to revise the plan to what we really need: a new indoor arena. I find it very encouraging that he's now presenting it as a project for men's basketball, women's basketball, and gymnastics. Get enough supporters of enough programs pissed off and wanting action and maybe the FOG's won't be able to ignore it.

Yeah, some people have been negative about this from the start. Everything I've read from Byrne has been positive and realistic. People skim the articles, latch onto whatever aspect they can construe as negative, and bitch about it. Byrne obviously wants to give Bama a great arena, and he is planning to do it. I don't know the finances of the athletic department, but I do understand staying out of debt .

Yea I actually took that as the most honest explanation of the timeline we've gotten yet (and I totally understand why Byrne jumped into that deep type of discussion yet).
He basically said they needed all the money up front, and to do that they had to get the biggest revenue driver in first and that was football. Then the rest of the funds and revenues from the football changes would hopefully pay for all the basketball items, which he clearly personally badly wants to do.
I'm still not sure what it will look like in the end, mainly because inherently I just don't trust it all and COVID-19 is going to throw a wrench in to everything funding and building wise for a long time.

I really don’t know how anyone can be naive enough to trust it. I’ll believe the arena renovations when I see it. I believe what we were shown, was a pipe dream.
