Here's something I don't understand about Sankey's comments

When asked by a reporter if he would allow SEC teams to play in the NCAAT if it goes on as scheduled, he said yes.
If we're going to do that, why did we cancel the SECT (and other conference tournaments)? What's the difference?

Time being one factor but it doesn’t really matter because it’s not happening

Well he's not in charge of the NCAAT so he wouldn't get blame for it if something goes wrong and if it did go on as scheduled (which it won't) then that would logically mean others have deemed it safe enough to play by then.

Yes and he was coordinating with the other commissioners on what to do.
The decision wasn't made by Sankey alone.

I suspect everything for NCAA Tourney will be cancelled as well due to contractual reasons. Once they cancelled fan participation then they had no reason for the large venues for the games. I suspect the only way they could weasel out of the massive losses they were going to incur was to cancel the entire thing due to the Federal declaration of a health emergency.

Sankey wanted to frick over the teams that had a chance of playing their way into the tourney?
In all seriousness, he doesn't have the power to stop teams from participating in a tourney under these conditions.

If something happened at the SECT the liability can fall on the SEC. @ NCAAT the liability can put on NCAA.
If a kid gets it, he would have the ability to potentially take it to court. And once the NBA made the call everyone else followed them because all it would take is an athlete who got sick at the NCAAT to take it to court and then you look foolish bc you thought you were smarter than the NCAA

Lebron and other NBA players straight up said they wouldn't play without fans. That's why the NBA cancelled instead of just doing empty stadiums. It didn't help that a player turned up positive and that likely means that more players have been exposes and some will likely also turn up positive.
The NCAA had issues with mass gatherings being banned at tourney sites along with other things.

^ They are only doing this stuff because of liability concerns.
