Everyone loves to get down in the crowd to their band playing songs right? Like LSU with Neck.. that shite is awesome. Without the band you couldn't do this... but aren't these kids still labeled as nerds??

I don't know it just got me thinking.. I played the sax for three years but quit after 9th grade because I thought band was too nerdy and I didn't want that label in high school. If I had continued I easily would've gotten a full ride somewhere.

Most of them are nerds. It's different in New Orleans though. You might get your arse beat by the clarinet player.

I dunno. They get on-field access every game, free travel/hotel/food for the away games including bowl games, class credit, and usually a stipend.

The band is awesome.

Every band kid I ever knew in high school was weird as hell. Big 6'3 225lb tuba player shoulda had his big arse on the oline pushing his weight around instead of in the stands.

I never really had to practice much. I was just naturally good. But seriously this was 13 years ago now. It's kind of sad to lose a skill like reading sheet music when you think about it... forgot all of my German too that I took in high school and college.

You two go to the same band camp?

Band geeks still have to sell candy bars in college to fund their travel?

Just like his Trumpet...when it came to coaching football in the SEC...Butch Jones blew it.

That being said...if he'd had a Benge instead of a crappy Holton Galaxy...there's no telling what kind of trumpet player Butch may have become.

It's just the way life works. One day the cool high school jock is playing slow pitch softball when he's 40 and the band geek is pulling chicks as a musician. Then the roles reverse. It's the circle of life.

Look around the SEC, and you'll see what conference money has done to our marching bands.

I was in the band for 1 year of high school... 13 years ago. I never did marching band. I was only concert band, and then I quit.

I'd love to see UT have a band like they did in the 70's and 80's. High School bands are shrinking...and the talent pool for college bands is getting smaller.

Imagine not understanding that a person can play more than one instrument
