"And I think at times, we put too much on those guys to where they’re thinking instead of reacting, and I think especially for young football players, it’s get lined up, set the front, keep the coverage obviously the same and be able to adjust out of what you’re in helps those guys."

Right after the South Carolina game would have been a great time to start simplifying things coach. Unfortunately, defending Michigan is not the kind of offense we've been overwhelmed by this season.

I get what he’s saying, but certainly he could’ve seen early in the year that these guys weren’t adjusting properly so he needed to simplify things a bit.

So it sounds like he's going nowhere?

What if they did do that? Simplifying the defense? Did you not see the part where he said that he had some growing pains this year?

I did, and I get that some players maybe can’t grasp the speed of the game and such. I just think that, inevitably, it falls on coaches to put the players in the best possible places to ensure the greatest chance for success.

I feel certain Golding tried his best. My concern is, is his best good enough?

I’m not super optimistic about Golding’s ability to turn our defense around, but I do think he deserves another year at a minimum.

The losses Bama incurred on defense (especially at MLB) would be challenging for even the Venables and Don Browns of the world, let alone a first year coordinator.

Give him a year with a healthier team and a year of experience under his belt. If there’s no improvement then make the call to move on.

While I understand what he is saying. No way Lee Should be been playing in third downs when we have Harris who played DB in high school.

This is fair. And, I have no doubts that if the defense is relatively healthy and underperforming Golding will be stripped of play calling duties by midseason.

So what happened? Could he not convince the boss? Are we looking at Golding's defensive principles or is he struggling to run his stuff?

It's good to hear he knows what went wrong, but lots of folks know what went wrong, that's still not a guarantee they can fix the problem. Of which there are multiple ones beyond keeping it simple.

It's coach Saban's team and legacy, hook, line, and sinker. Either way, it's going to be interesting to see how our defense response Wednesday.

It’s as though some of you have forgotten that some of our young guys were making the same mistakes in the Iron Bowl as they were making against Duke. They showed little improvement. That’s on Golding.

Oh yeah, that’ll be a great situation for us to be in. Let’s take that risk.
