Watched and old movie today and the main character was a pipe smoker. I can't recall the last time I saw somebody smoking a pipe.

When I was 18 and could just buy tobacco I did for a while. Would go to a little place here in town called davis's smoke shop. All 100% tobacco. They had a very dark blend that was super smooth, and SMELLED INCREDIBLE! called captains choice.

The thing with pipe tobacco is if it is of good quality it has a very very pleasant sweet scent unlike cigarettes. It is also sweet like a cigar that had been dipped in cognac.

My grandpa did. All his shirts had little burn holes in the back because he'd smoke it while riding his motorcycle and the embers would blow out and hit his back

A childhood friend's dad did. That was in the 80's, and I don't think I've known anyone since who was a regular pipe smoker.

I smoked a pipe off and on 40-45 years ago and enjoyed it. I accumulated a nice collection. My father was a pipe smoker, too. I enjoyed using different tobaccos with different aromas. The only real setback to pipe smoking is having to lug all the paraphernalia needed to smoke and maintain it (multiple pipes, tobacco, filters cases, etc.).

If you've learned how to leave the pipe in your mouth while using your hands, be careful not to let it give you a sore jaw....it'll feel like somebody nailed you.

Trick is getting the right Cavendish -to- aromatic blend(s), where you often trade superb taste at the expense of great aroma. There's all manner and you'll want different one's for different occasions. That and learning how to stay on the good side of too hot a smoke and when to clean in order avoid that nasty taste... no biggie just part of the fun and learning.

I had a similar experience. Had an extensive collection of some pretty good pipes, mostly Charatans. Quit smoking them, Too much bother fooling with paraphernalia and buying good tobaccos outside of big cities. Gave my pipes, humidors, etc to an old friend. He returned most of them 20 years later. I quit smoking cigarettes about a year and a half ago, and every now and then think i would enjoy lighting up a pipe and relaxing with a glass of good whiskey. .

My Dad smoked pipes until his mid 30's. He would put the lit one in back pocket of his suit and most of his pants had the same burn holes. I remember at age 10 he would send me into the drugstore to buy tobacco while he waited in the car. A lot different today.

I bought a corn cob pipe after college. I was never a cigarette guy and liked pipes better than cigars. It was also a good conversation starter. I lived in Nashville (making no money). I went downtown to Printers Alley to hear some blues music. Cover was $20. Since I made little money, I sat in alley and smoked pipe. Bouncer comes over to me and says “love the pipe, Cover charge on me if you want to come in”.

My dad used to smoke a pipe, and he had a collection of meerschaum pipes he had purchased while in Turkey.

Pretty sure that’s where my Dad got his back in the 50’s while he was in the service. Old bearded man’s face.

ummm, as long as you refer to it like that in the “tobacco shop” you will be fine.

My dad always told me to never hire a pipe smoker. He said they’ll screw around with that damn pipe all day long and won’t get anything done.

I found my dad's old pipe the other day. Been a long time. Like you said, smelled incredible. Nothing like it. Have no idea what brand he used.
