Has Yaw Yaw taken LSU to the natty before? Has he ever won his conference? Not sure why you act like he’s Saban.

Georgia was 3rd in every ranking at the end of the 2002 regular season iirc.

Richt first 4 years: 42-10, 24-8 in the SEC, 1 top 5 finish, 2 Top 10, 1 major bowl victory

Smart first 4 years to date: 41-11, 24-7 in the SEC, 1 top 5 finish, 1 top 10, 1 major bowl victory and 1 more top 5 or 10 finish coming this year

Is the only difference basically that Smart is lucky enough to coach when there’s a playoff system?

Very little from the first 4 years. He seems to be better than Jimbo Fisher, though, so there's that. Kirby is cheaper, too, so looks like we got a bargain and A&M got....well, Jimboed.

Now you tell me this...what is the difference between Jombo Fisher and Gus Malzahn?
Last two years Malzahn is 15-8 and Jimbo Fisher is 16-7.
Even their contracts are similar.

I couldn’t remember if it was third or fourth, regardless they were top 4 and would have easily been in a theoretical playoff

My memory is kind of foggy... Didn't Richt have the playoffs at UGA? How did he do then? He must be killin it at Miami right now.

The question shows a lack of intelligence.

Richt was not fired for what he did in his first 4 years.

Good for him. He was also in his mid to late 50s and had been a head coach for well over 10 years.

Recruiting is the most obvious thing. Georgia's recruiting under Richt was very good. Under Smart it is elite.

Also Richt was pretty great his first four years at Georgia so being compared to him is a compliment to Smart.

I think Richt's drive to keep up with the Jones' in the SEC fell off and seems like his recruiting (particularly in the trenches) fell off and the rest was history.

That part of Kirby's career at Georgia hasn't been written yet, but he seems a lot more driven to get Georgia to the top and stay there than Richt did.

Might have. Doesn't mean we would have won the semi game and played for the NC.

Crap. I just saw the post asking how Fisher is differnt than Sumlin.

I can answer that.

First two years:

Sumlin-20-4
Fisher-16-7 (so far)

Ouch.

I realize Shane's post was a troll at Georgia since we play them this week...but crap, man.

You gave a very good answer.

Comparing Smart to Saban at Toledo or Michigan State or something is idiotic.

Well...are those not the first years of his coaching tenure? What's idiotic is when fans try to downplay kirby by comparing him to saban's first [x amount] of years at a school, while ignoring that neither alabama or lsu were his first gigs. It's almost like...he cut his teeth and learned as he grew. But apparently kirby isn't allowed to do that.

Edit: Yes, they win a lot, but I'm talking about the big games that matter. That's where Kirby struggles to get it done, when he goes against teams that match his talent

Sounds exactly like LSU's Old Coach.

Kirby 'Les' Smart.

Those are pretty much identical records. Interesting

True - but he left out a National Championship appearance, an SEC title and three SEC East titles.

What's the difference between Jimbo and Sumlin?

One is about to have his 2nd losing season in 2 years, more than his predecessor had in 6, and the other is Jimbo.
