Richt first 4 years: 42-10, 24-8 in the SEC, 1 top 5 finish, 2 Top 10, 1 major bowl victory

Smart first 4 years to date: 41-11, 24-7 in the SEC, 1 top 5 finish, 1 top 10, 1 major bowl victory and 1 more top 5 or 10 finish coming this year

Is the only difference basically that Smart is lucky enough to coach when there’s a playoff system?

Richt was one of the best coaches in America in his first few years. Enjoy your 7-5 season with the 75 million dollar coach.

I think there's hope that smart can sustain or even improve on his success, but Richt showed his ceiling a few times and then started to decline.

Not saying smart won't decline, but there's at least hope that he can sustain that high level for a longer period and be more consistent with it.

TL;DR -- remains to be seen.

There's not much of a difference. Great Value Saban has better bagmen than the Reverend, but he gets the same results. If Georgia is gonna win, Kirby needs to be a better in-game coach and modernize the offense.

Edit: Yes, they win a lot, but I'm talking about the big games that matter. That's where Kirby struggles to get it done, when he goes against teams that match his talent.

One went to the playoffs and natty and the other one didn't. What's the difference between Jimbo and Sumlin? Why pay a guy 75 mil who can't get the same results as Sumlin?

Is the only difference

Smart is the first coach to win the East three years in a row since Spurrier.

Smart recruits a lot better.

Smart owns his rivals better.

Richt wasn’t fired because of the first part of his tenure, retard.

A major difference is Richts recruiting focused more on flashy skill players whereas Smart places a much bigger emphasis on OL than Richt ever did.

Richt was also one of the best coaches in the country in his first 4 years at UGA.

Here's a fun fact, Smart has been more successful than Saban in his first 3 years as a head coach.

His bowl cut and the name Kirby make him seem like he’s 6 years old.

No way to know that. Richt lost every game that would've got him to the natty. Smart did not. Also, Richt wasn't fired for his first 3 years. If a school can get Richt to match that success they should hire him. Again, the real question is why did a&m pay 75 mil for Sumlin lite?

You won the SEC Championship in 02 and finished 4th in the BCS, it’s pretty identical to Smart’s second year. If you’re Smart has been more successful it’s a result of the system in place thus my question

Comparing Smart to Saban at Toledo or Michigan State or something is idiotic. If you’re talking LSU you’re flat wrong
