quote:Gustav's buyout is $7 million.
They can’t pay 20 plus million for Gus’ buyout
quote:But that would get us off the hook for the $20+ million we would owe him if we were to terminate him in the next two or three years. Might be worth it in the long run.
The only stupid move would be for our AD to negotiate the buyout down to help Gus leave
I've reached the point where I've come to expect Gustav to go 8-5 pretty much every year, with the occasional chance to win 10 games. If that's what we're stuck with, well, it could be worse. But with Jimmy Sexton as his agent, we will eventually be faced with the decision to continue to pay top dollar for that performance, with the threat that our recruiting will deteriorate if we don't extend his deal.
THAT'S when things will get interesting.

To hell with any dealings with Jimmy Sexton.
I'd tell Gus (or whomever) their price/worth drops every time I hear his name. The guy is a piranha on college sports and the sooner it cost coaches money for signing with him the better for the game. And it needs to come from the NCAA head office under the guise leveling the playing field. Something like a collegiate coach can't draw over a certain percentage of gross per institution.
Why should a coach or agent not be shackled financially when all the other participants are?

Bigger question, Gus would owe us 7 million to leave. Would we waive that?
It drops to 5 mill after December

Such a stupid fricking contract.
Jay Jacobs is a dumb count.
Anyway, I agree. We tell him his contract is what it is at this point and if he wants to re-open negotiations, he can buy himself out of the original contract and we can go from there.

He literally played no part in the contract. He actually worked back channels to subvert Leath's efforts to gain support for the terms of the extension. JJ has a lot to answer for in his time at Auburn, we don't have to make up things to blame on him.

Well okay. frick him anyway
But seriously, the contract is so bad. We owe him a bajillion dollars to fire him but someone can just buy him out for like 20% of his buyout.

In fact, the guy Arky just fired is a Sexton client. So was the basketball coach they fired last year.
ETA: This is what you can expect if you pursue only Sexton clients:
quote:
Ole Miss: Sexton client Hugh Freeze was let go in July, and Sexton client Matt Luke replaced him on an interim basis. Luke later got the full-time job.
Florida: Sexton client Jim McElwain was fired in October, and replaced by Sexton client Dan Mullen.
Texas A&M: Sexton colonized College Station, replacing Kevin Sumlin with one of his star clients in Jimbo Fisher. (By the way, Sexton client Willie Taggart filled the opening Sexton created at Florida State.)
Tennessee: Sexton client Butch Jones was fired in November, and now Sexton client Jeremy Pruitt is set to replace him.
Arkansas: Faytteville also fell to Sexton this year. Neil Cornrich client Bret Bielema was replaced by Sexton client Chad Morris.
Sexton makes more money off his shite client coaches than his good ones

Hey Tiguar, not really meaning to sidetrack the thread, but what is your opinion of Steve Campbell's performance at South thus far? Obviously they are struggling, but do you think he'll have a chance to turn it around?

You also don’t avoid someone cause they are a client

My personal opinion is it's possible, but I seriously doubt his ability long term. He has made some really bone-headed general game management decisions that would present an issue regardless of any personnel issue.
The fan base is a little divided as far as whether or not to give him a 3rd year. I think he should be given his due chance but it's complicated because of the new stadium. We really don't want a disappointing season for our first year in a new stadium.

Brandon Marcello basically shut down the Arkansas talk.
-Insinuated Gus might’ve burned some bridges, and he probably couldn’t go back even if he wanted to.
-Stressed that Gus wants championships and knows he cannot get them there.
-He even said, “ I have it on good authority the Malzahns would NEVER leave Auburn for Arkansas if they feel comfortable here. And, well, they feel comfortable here..”
——————————-———
In summary, he gone.

Thanks. I knew the stadium might be an issue, but you might not want to break in an entirely new staff in the first year of a new stadium either.
I'm friends with his mom, BTW. Great lady, have never met him (he was a GA under Dye back in the 80s).
