Auburn Fans tell me about Bo Nix

Not having watched a ton of Auburn games this year i'm trying to understand the hype. His stats say he is pretty mediocre but he is a true freshman so this is not unexpected. However your fans and the media argue he is better than the stats show. Are we missing something? He has 1300 yards and 11 TD's with all 5 interceptions against ranked teams. He had a very clutch throw against Oregon but his actual numbers outside of that moment just don't stack up. He has numbers similar to the LSU QB's before Joe Burrow which everyone, LSU fans included argued were very average.

Plays like a freshman (Think Burrow last year), has some great moments and some WTF moments.
Played well except for the first half vs. Oregon (Expected) and the entire game against UF (not all his fault but he sucked).

Why are you worried about him with the big Bama game coming up?

Dude is about to avenge the phantom whistle that cost his father a victory in Red Stick

The "hype" is all media. Auburn fans just want to win, and he has been successful at doing that as a true freshman. But none of us are thinking he's Tom Brady right now, we just expect him to get better in the future which is bright for him. We also know that Gatewood could just as easily have been the starter.

He should invest in this.

He has a super high ceiling but he is playing worse than Burrow was playing last year. His QBR against Florida was 6.6. Let that sink in for a moment

He shows flashes by making throws only "big time" QB's make, but he also throws into coverage and it cost him against UF 3 times and against Oregon 2 times.
I expect him to play better than the UF game, but I'm not expecting him to win the game.

That all makes sense. He is a true freshman i really am trying to understand those who expect him to walk into tiger stadium for a top 10 matchup and light the world on fire. He appears to be a solid game manager at this time with really only one above average game against state.

No reasonable person believes this.
If we get a few turnovers and set the O up we can steal this game, but it won't be like Bo marched in BR and won the game.

He hasn't been asked to be Burrow...he hasn't had tons of attempts. TD to Int ratio is ok...completion percentage isn't great...but that said, I think he's looked very good for a true freshman, with exception to the UF game where he was horrible.
He has a cannon of an arm and a tendency to overthrow...very athletic...if Jarrett Stidham was a 6 as a runner, Nix might be a 7 1/2. Definitely better but no Nick Marshall. He makes puzzling throws sometimes where you go "what the f*** was he looking at??". And at other times he throws a 65 yard Warren Moon beauty and drops it right into the breadbasket. He has a hell of a competitive fire and seems to be very clutch...again though, the UF game was the exception...not sure what got to him but he never got going. I think he's going to be a 4 year starter at Auburn and will be a damn good QB...but he ain't there yet

quote:Are affected by three factors:
his actual numbers
1. His offensive "genius" head coach/play caller, runs an outdated passing offense that will rarely allow its QB to have a good passing percentage compared to QBs operating in more modern, pass friendly offenses.
2. He's a true freshman that has made his share of freshmen mistakes.
3. His mediocre offensive line doesn't do him many favors.

??? Half of our fanbase wants him benched so that a TE can start in his place.
In all seriousness, he's been fine. Straight up cost us the Florida game but you get forgiveness from me on the road in the swamp as a freshman. I expect he will have a good but not great game Saturday, something like: 14/27 195 passing yards 1 TD, 45 rushing yards, 1 TD and maybe a costly TO

Has a great arm and can make every throw. Smart enough not to take sacks (9 total). Biggest problem is that he thinks he has to make plays and is capable of carrying a team on his shoulders. Something 5 star HS QBs think they can do immediately at the next level. Gus hasn't protected him much by limiting his play selection to safe high percentage throws. AU had the ball 5 times in UF territory and got zero points, if Gus had handled Bo as a freshman, the game would have had a different outcome.
