Yall got a good one. I was wrong about him I must say
It's easy to judge a book by its cover. I know I did. Pleasantly surprised by O. And if he keeps recruiting like he is nationally, he just might be at LSU for a while.

That's one thing that gets lost. From early on it was evident how disciplined the team was.

I questioned it for sure. I knew the recruiting was there, but I wondered what else he brought. He showed that he's willing to find the right guys for the staff and make changes until it works. Along with recruiting, that's the most important thing an HC can do. Apart from not meddling with those right guys he hires on game day.

You can dissect anyone's top 10 wins that way. Even mighty Alabama. Once you beat em they tend to drop. That is what helps them not be in the top 10.

To be honest with you I never thought Jimbo or Hermann would beat Nick Saban. Maybe an upset one time. But not consistantly. So I thought O should get the job. A place holder until Saban retires. I might have to rethink that. He has certainly done more than I thought he would. And tapping the Saints in my opinion was a brillant move. I don't know if people realize it or not, but he also has the old Saints defensive line coach, Bill Johnson. Who was the line coach when the Saints won the superbowl. And with the Rams last year.

WHEN he wins the Natty he, like Les Miles, will go from being a national joke to being quirky and fun! He may have achieved that status already this year.

This past weekend, my wife reminded me of what I said when Coach O was hired as the permanent coach of LSU:
"Time to find another hobby."
"Time to find another hobby."

hope you enjoyed the gift last year from lsu. it's going to be a miserable day for you in november this year.

'm pretty sure USC wishes they would have hired him permanently.

I was totally against the hire, and still think Alleva is an all-time moron; but how can you say he hasn't turned out way better than expected and looks like a damm fine coach right now.
Next year without Burrow and other primer players, and maybe coaches, won't be easy. The way he is recruiting LSU should still be good and be in position to make another run fairly soon. Next year will say a lot about him.

Best hire by any SEC team since Bama hired Saban.
Think about that.
Think about that.

I like the hell out of Coach O, but can he sustain it without Joe Burrow playing out of his mind? Let's check in a year from now.

I agree. I am so glad that Alleva is gone but I think it was defensible at the time to decide if you can't get a coach who has already won a Natty (Jimbo) or the consensus hot up-and-comer (Herman) then take the package that O was at that time:
- a good recruiter who would:
- keep Aranda,
- bring in Kiffin and
- stay out of their way
Les had to go and I think this was a defensible decision at that time with what was known. Unfortunately, Kiffin took the head coaching gig at FIU and left O scrambling to get an OC and it's taken two years to right that. I am just pleasantly surprised at how he has learned and is showing to be a better head coach than I assumed he could be, based on what was known. But how long can he hold onto Brady and does he have someone lined up if/when he leaves?

As a practical matter, who would LSU get that would do a better job than Ogeron is now?

That question is asked with the benefit of hindsight, something nobody had when he was hired.
