On LSU-Florida rivalry: "Everyone says that LSU has a lot of different rivals. We have a trophy with Arkansas, Florida is a rival, Ole Miss is supposedly a rival, Alabama, but I think this is the biggest one. I don't like them very much. I know they don't like us very much and that's kind of been the talk around here, but you just have to kind of keep your emotions in check in a game like this. They did beat us pretty good last year."

Clearly his point was that he views Florida as a huge game but I didn't see anyone here chatting about the shade he threw at the Rebels.

I love it when OM fans claim LSU is their rival. It’s so cute.

Anyone who thinks Florida is LSU’s biggest rival doesn’t know anything about LSU’s rivalries.

It’s because they are. And State is our bitch.

I get hyped about Florida more than any other. Arky used to be a thriller no matter where they were ranked, but that must have been a Les Miles thing, because we own them and Ole Miss since Coach O showed up.

I think A&M are going to be most upset about the comment

Don’t know if it’s a rivalry, but LSU/Florida is the best big SEC game in the middle of the season

There is a reason two of any of these games don’t happen on the same Saturday.

The 9 permanent/perennial games pitting big 6 vs big 6 is what the sec has hung its hat on. M o n e y

9-21
UF @ UT

10-5
UGA @ UT

10-12
UF @ LSU

10-19
UT @ ALA

10-26
AU @ LSU

11-2
UF vs UGA @ Jacksonville

11-9
LSU @ ALA

11-16
UGA @ AU

11-30
ALA @ AU

Every game counts in the sec.
but only nine games matter.

That's because your main rival left the conference 50 years ago and now competes in the AAC.

Because no one cares.
You have to take it in context and I don't think he was throwing shade. Burrow is from Ohio and has been at LSU less than two years. He doesn't know the history. Since 2000, Ole Miss has won 5 games vs LSU. IBurrow's only game vs the Rebels was a blowout.
He is too young to remember Trev Alberts calling Ole Miss "Runts".

Sounds like he's saying that UF is LSU's Super Bowl.

I think it has become more of a rivalry since that fricktard Joe Alleva got involved a couple years ago

O RLY?

Here's some context.

His old man is a Mississippi baw. Perhaps Joe knows a little more about Ole Miss than you give him credit for.

quote:

But [Jimmy] Burrow is from Amory, Miss., just a little south and east of Tupelo, not far from the Alabama border.

Not only that, he played on the freshman football team at Mississippi.

His sister and brother both went to Mississippi, and his brother played football there.

His father played basketball at Mississippi State, "so there was a shift in loyalty," he said.

Nevertheless, his Mississippi roots run deep.

And had he been offered a scholarship following his freshman year he walked on with the Rebels he would have stayed there.

As it turned out, he transferred to Nebraska in 1972, at the urging of Jim Walden, a Cornhusker assistant at the time.

quote:

So Burrow, a defensive back, packed up his bags and left for Lincoln, after first asking if the Mississippi coaches would be willing to match the Cornhuskers' scholarship offer.

The Mississippi campus in Oxford is only about 70 miles from where he grew up.

"I went in and said I had a scholarship offer at Nebraska and I would like one there if I was going to stay," he said. "I think they thought I was trying to pull a fast one on them."

The amount of hatred Ole Miss and LSU have for one another when we play is usually an indicator of a Healthy rivalry.
