Franks has a much higher ceiling

Loyalty perhaps? Maybe Trask wasn't showing anything in practice.
Also wondering if Trask has a higher ceiling than Franks.

Inertia, leadership, and running ability.

Better athlete and can run the ball imo.

I think because Mullen is obsessed with having a running QB like Tebow and Prescott

his last qb at Miss State, the big old white boy, could run but he sucked as a qb.

Same reason Jalen started over TUA

Mullen will start veteran players over more talented ones. It was a huge complaint of State fans while he was there.

Fit in offense. He doesnt run well. Mullen wants a running QB. Franks has the strong arm, is a vocal leader, and could run.
Trask simply is a better gamer. He doesnt get rattled like Franks and clearly understands the offense more.

In Tua's freshman year Hurts was not only a returning starter but the returning SEC Offensive Player of the Year as a true freshman in 2016. Granted, at least by the Auburn game Tua's freshman year a lot of folks, reportedly even the wide receivers and offensive coordinator, thought that Tua was better than Hurts, but Saban is loyal to returning starters. He doesn't have many faults as a head football coach, but that may be one. Some folks still wonder why Josh Jacobs wasn't the starter last year.

Franks has legit NFL talent. Size, arm, mobility, just needs a lot of work between the ears.
He’s also much better at extending plays than Trask.

Ah, with the alpaca hair style. I can see that.

SEC coaches aren’t excited to start a kid against a SEC schedule that’s never started a real game before. Especially when they have a QB with experience and intangibles like Franks has. Trask also has zero pocket awareness. Probably from lack of experience.

Emory Surprised a lot of us. We weren’t sure if he was gonna develop.

Talent and skill are not the same thing. Talent is something you’re born with. Franks is 6’6, a mobile 240 and has a cannon for an arm. Those are things that can’t be developed.
Franks has everything that NFL scouts salivate over except the brains.

I like that Mullen apparently didn’t change the package for him.
