Official statement by Pac 12 released Sunday night:

I can buy that perhaps the evidence wasn't clear enough to overturn but they still should have reviewed that play. Sounds like CYA to me.

More from San Jose paper:

quote:
David Coleman, the VP for Officiating, explained in a video posted on the Pac-12 website that the mechanics of the play were handled properly.
He added:
“Given the closeness of the call, and that it was an end-of-game scenario, it probably should have been stopped by instant replay for review. However, as there was not irrefutable video evidence that the ruling … could be overturned to a touchdown, it was the correct call.”
Stopping play after a correct call on the field would have given Ole Miss an advantage, allowing the Rebels to get organized and call a play after they had used all their timeouts.

It's not the call, it's the non-reviewal that is fucjed up.
I don't think he got in.

Translation:
The game should have been stopped for an instant replay review and that would have been the correct thing to do.
However, since our PAC-12 refs don't really give a shite and would just like to collect their paycheck and have better things to do, we didn't feel it was appropriate to review it.
Without reviewing the "video evidence", just how in the frick can there really be irrefutable video evidence?
We ain't got time review that shite. These people down here in the SEC don't have other stuff to do like we do in the PAC-12, and they have time to review video.
We don't. Therefore, without reviewing it, it can't be irrefutable.
Case closed.

Yup.
They pretty much admitted the review should've happened. I could see the review going either way.
Ole Miss probably loses anyway.

Nah, Ole Miss probably wins. They had the momentum and everything was going their way and their players were executing at a high level at that point.
A two point conversion would have been almost assured.
The PAC-12 protected their own and it's pretty obvious. Nothing at all was reviewed as there wasn't time.

However, the Conference would have supported play being stopped by Instant Replay for further review
So they weren't correct then? Cuz not stopping the play absofrickinlutely effected that outcome

How can someone look at that and say that it wasn't a touchdown? Are they fricking blind?

Hmmm...seems like I remember something similar to this happening at Williams Brice 2 Saturdays ago..

Absolute f***ing bullshite. At NO point in the process of the catch did the ball ever leave the endzone. What in the f*** that official was looking at, I will never know. Clearly a TD. And for those officials in the booth not to review it, having seen that play with their own eyes, is horseshite. They ought to be ashamed of themselves. Particularly Stevie Wonder the side judge. F*** him and the PAC-10. And for God's sake, Phil Knight, buy your conference some pylon cameras you cheap f***.

They have the video evidence

They acknowledge they fricked up on the ASU/MSU game a few weeks ago too, however, it was no guarantee that the K would make it anyway.

So...after-the-fact they review the video and determine the call would have held up, so Ole Miss is upset that they weren’t gifted a free timeout?
The only way Ole Miss would have been screwed would have been if the call was wrong. It wasn’t.
Crying over a non-replay for a call you wouldn’t have had overturned simply because you wanted a free timeout is pitiful.

They were screwed because it was clearly a TD. At no point did the ball even leave the endzone. In a pathetic attempt to CYA, the PAC-12 is saying that they didn't have a view right down the line that shows without a shadow of a doubt that the ball broke the plane. But they had the other view that showed, if you are capable of utilizing the logic of which most dogs are capable, that the ball had clearly broken the plane and in fact, never left the endzone. Most notably when he came down and the ball was entirely past the plane and directly above the white line.

Whether the play was a TD or not, the fact that it was a potential scoring play and certainly affected the outcome of the game and was in question means that play should have been stooped and the play reviewed. Would that have helped Ole Miss? Yeah, it would have, but tough tit, those are the rules we play by now with replay. It absolutely should have been reviewed and play stopped, just like it should have been in Columbia, SC 2 weeks ago. It is stupid and a failure in both instances that play was not stopped for review.

Yeah. It seems like the refs consciously took into account the fact that Ole Miss could have benefited by them stopping the clock for a review.
That’s not a calculation they should ever be making. “Is it worth a review?” is the only calculation they should be making.
