Goooooood morning fellow dirty birds! After the exciting win Sunday Night against Philadelphia, our Birds look to improve to 2-1 this week in the great state of racing and windfarms.
THE MATCHUP
YOUR ATLANTA FALCONS (1-1)
VERSUS
THE TEAM THAT CONSECUTIVELY HAD PEYTON MANNING AND ANDREW LUCK (1-1)
Game Time: 1:00 EST
Where: Lucas Oil Stadium, Indianapolis, Indiana
TV: CBS
Radio: 92.9 the Game (ATL)
The only scouting report you will need to read: HERE
Here's hoping that (1) we maintain health, (2) cut down on mental mistakes, (3) win the turnover battle, (4) continue to play (shockingly) good defense, and (5) Matty Ice goes for 300, 4 TDs, and no INTs
Rise Up!

I am still pleased with Koetter's performance against the Philth.
That was a tough defense and we seemed to actually have a purpose and a plan for how to attack them, which is a breath of fresh air from the past two seasons.
the fact that they had the screen to julio as THE check for the entire drive waiting for them to make a specific defensive call is brilliant.
need this win badly. if we can get it, we have a very legit chance to be 5-1 going into the brutal stretch of Rams, Seahawks, and @Taints.

@Taints.
You think Taysom Hill will be used to the starting QB role by then?

maybe they'll go get Eli

I do not feel very confident about this one. A road game against a good team with great play on the lines of scrimmage sounds familiar. Indianapolis might have the best OL in the league

I think this one is a squeaker. Think our offense comes up big in the 4th quarter.

Is anyone else concerned that we have no run game? Gonna have to take a first round back next year.

I think this has to do with 2 things: (1) our offensive line is adjusting to another, new run scheme. I think it will take a few weeks to get this going. (2) Freeman has straight-line speed, but isn't as shifty as before. I love the guy, but he's getting paid wayyy to much to not be an elite back.
I wouldn't mind taking a back early if that RB is Etienne. That dude can literally do everything.

yes, but not because of the running backs.

Taking a RB in the first round is the dumbest thing an NFL team can do and it will not fix the lack of run game. The only thing that fixes the lack of run game is better blocking. As Lindstrom and McGary get more time, I think that'll help a ton.

Meh I think it depends. If you can get a girly or Zeke type player, it would be worth it. Pats took Sony in rd 1.

I truly believe it is better to have a good OL and average RB than the other way around. A RB is only as good as his blocking.

Agree on this philosophy. I think you can find a very good RB in round 2. Always a ton of value there.
There's a long list of RBs I like in this draft. I think Etienne is incredibly elite, and will go really high. Swift will likely also go in the mid-first.
It would be my hope that ATL drafts someone in round 2 like Jonathan Taylor (Wisconsin), or Cam Akers (FSU).
Rounds 3-5, someone like Najee Harris or Eno Benjamin would be nice.
Also - I love Ito Smith as a running back. I think he and the aforementioned would be a great pair.

falcons still have too many deficiencies on both LOS to be drafting a back in the first round.

Had a lot less weaknesses than we did and do.

This. I've said this before, but if I was a GM I would only draft linemen, corner, or QB (if needed) in the first round.

This team will be very tough to beat.
Indy is a borderline playoff team without Luck. Dline needs another big game.

Maybe so, but we still need to beat them without Luck. Need as many wins as possible before hitting that gauntlet around the season midpoint.

And at pick #31 or 32, not mid-first round. Anyone think the Birds are a SB team?

It's the NFL. With the right bounces, I quite literally think 10-15 team *could* win the Super Bowl.
Hopefully, we do as Matt Ryan said and just "stack up wins."
Like '98 and '16... you just gotta hope you don't get hit by injuries too bad, have the ball bounce your way, get hot before the playoffs... you just never know.
That unpredictability is why the NFL has been king for so long... every year there is legitimate hope for half of the franchises in the league, that this year is "the year."
The energy in the city after the 2016 NFC Championship was absurd. After Julio's 80 yard td catch and run, it was like a rave in the Georgia Dome for the rest of the second half. Even had we won the Super Bowl, I likely had more fun that night. Alford's pick-six was incredible, but the stadium was likely 30% Falcons fans, 50% Patriots fans, and the balance 20% agnostic/corporate types. It's the best-run production I've ever seen, but it doesn't have the energy of a home-playoff game.
I'd love for it to happen, but in order to do so, let's beat Indy first.
