Why is everyone acting like the offense didn’t run right down the field with Nix?

Thing we have to remember with Gatewood is Willis looked amazing running the zone read against scrubs too.

I’m not mad at all. But I hope if we’re serious about improving, we can admit we didn’t look great at times tonight. I saw a lot of missed tackles and blown assignments on defense. Offense was fairly inconsistent at times. Nix overthrew a lot and the times he didn’t overthrow, the receivers couldn’t catch. Offensive line looked better, which made the running game look better. It looked like we improved, but we’re still looking like an 8 win team.

I wasn't able to see our first drive. Whomever we have at QB, the zone read should be a big component. I just love seeing Gatewood get 3-4 yards just about every carry ala Cam.

Sans some secondary and LB play in space in the first half, this game was great. Nix was allowed to open it up and only had a few bad passes, the last of which he set his feet perfectly on a trick. Stayed in the pocket a couple of times he wouldnt have the first two games.
Depth got a lot of time, Sharp got solid time, we saw Gatewood run a drive, even threw it once. All the RBs got time (DJ might be heading for a redshirt), saw JJ Wilson, Hastings and Canela got open over the middle, and we didn't have D Brown (who I think is fine and Gus will just frick with ATM) or Tega. Add Seth Williams and a full-go Schwartz, Carlson hit from the hashes. Not bad.
Need Tutt to fair catch balls near mid-field though.

All of this. I think Nix can run a ton of that offense too, we just don’t do it.

That’s the thing. Nix can run the ball if Gus would let him. I haven’t seen enough of Gatewood throwing the ball to bring out the pitchfork on Nix. All I know for certain is that Gus needs to let Nix run it.
