Lsu - How worried are you about the defense?

The Longhorns had 30 first downs Saturday night. They passed for 409 yards and gained 530 total yards. That enabled them to possess the ball for nearly 34 minutes and run 85 plays. LSU didn’t have a takeaway.
“We didn’t make many plays on defense,” coach Ed Orgeron said. “We’ve got to get better on defense.”
...
LSU’s defense was penalized 5 times for 55 yards as pass defenders had a series of holding and interference calls. LSU also missed a bunch of tackles.
“Some of our best players missed some tackles,” Orgeron said. “So we have to get better. We have to be hungry, we have to be humble, look at the things we did wrong and get better at them.”
Though the Tigers did sack Sam Ehlinger 4 times for 25 yards in losses, virtually all of the pressure came on the few occasions that Aranda sent 5 or more pass rushers. Most of the night he relied on the front 4 to generate the pass rush and they mostly allowed Ehlinger to operate freely.
“Schematically they had us,” Orgeron said. “We weren’t getting enough rush, we were getting beat 1-on-1, guys were wide open. We’ve got to go back and look at what we did and evaluate what can we do better. Overall I don’t think we were very good on defense. We know that. We didn’t tackle well in space. We couldn’t stop them.”
It sounds like Ed is very concerned. Was it taken into account that the defense would be on the field more now the offense runs more quickly? I know Lsu fans would go on and on about how it would never work in the SEC with Sumlin's OCs would do it.

Talent is there. Texas played a damn good game and sometimes you have to tip your hat. Didn’t the aggies light up Clemson’s d last year ?

Not one bit. Texas has a good offense. We have an ever better one. Our defense is still LSU-caliber which means it's in the top 3 (maybe best) defense in the country.
How much are you worried about LSU?

Not concerned.
LSU won’t play an offense that good again this year. And they won’t be playing in 100+ degree weather!

Not really worried, Ehlinger was accurate and hitting his guys. We werent out of position a ton, a few bad tackles. Defense held them to 7 through about 35 minutes then they went off as well as a lot of defensive players getting injured/cramping up. If anything we need to make sure guys get enough proper hydration, but we may not play in another game that hot all season long
In the end in today's game if someone is on, there's not much you can do about it. Every "elite" defense these days gets lit up. Look at Alabama against Clemson.

I am.
Our linebackers had some difficulty in coverage. And our safeties uncharacteristically missed some tackles (Delpit and Vincent). Stingley was terrific. Fulton didn't have his best game... made a poor judgment on Texas' first TD and got beat a couple of other times.
Most of their yards came on underneath throws and they would make the first down marker or break a tackle or two for a larger gain. I'm glad something like this happened early on so they can make the necessary adjustments.

LSU/Aranda has plenty of time to clean up that defense, they will be in top form by time they have to face an elite offense.

I'll worry when one of you hires Tom Herman as your offensive coordinator.

Texas ran 93 plays in 4 Quarters. For perspective A&M ran 105 last year in 7 OTs. That's the downside of running an up tempo, and something they will have to balance in the future. Also it was hot and UT has a pretty good QB and skill players.
LSU was inches away from deflecting several passes, they will improve. These days even Alabama with the talent and coaching they have will get rang for a lot of yards and points against top notch QBs.

Coach O and Aranda said they were using a cage the QB technique, where the Ends would rush to a certain point and just contain the QB. They were trying to prevent the Texas QB (can't remember his name) from beating us with his running abilities. They dared him to throw it and he did. Coach O also said that if he had to do it again, he'd do it differently.

Not at all.
I’ve already posted analysis several times in the last few days. I’m not going to type it out again. TLDR: our gameplan was to contain and not get beat by Ehlinger running. We did just that and if we could have tackled literally anyone in the second half, we would have won the game by 3 TDs.

Not sure how worried I am. I think the players are fine. It is tough to evaluate because the LSU staff did a bad job of scouting how good Texas was, especially Ehlinger's skills as a passer. Their game plan was off and Texas took advantage of it, which is what good teams do.
Right now, I'm just tipping my cap to Texas. I don't really know how good both of these teams are. How much is hype? I do think these are both really good, but are they elite? I still feel Clemson/Bama are a step above, then OK right behind them. UGA I don't know where they fit either.
