Is this going to be like Sorahan and Jones?

I don't think it really matters who was named. Both will play and whoever looks better will be named starter for week 2.

Can we please be a fricking normal team for once and name a for sure starter and only have the other play when the game is out or hand

Names Ben the starter, then proceeds to talk about Nick's superior physical tools and good grasp of the offense.
I just don't get it. Barring some gamesmanship happening here, I just can't wrap my mind around this one.
Arkansas hasn't had a QB with the NFL talent and swagger of Starkel since Mallet.

Probably true... But this board told me that Hicks sucks...who do I trust?

I get why he did it. Morris didn’t want to be a dick by recruiting Hicks and letting him start the first game.

I should have never posted that stat about throwing balls into a net
Honestly I think most suspected Hicks to start early from a few months ago, I know I did, but posters have changed their minds because of practice reports and from what Chad has said (not unreasonable). I don't really see the issue in week 1. If we are flipping QBs around against Ole Miss and lose, I'm totally on the train of this QB situation being mishandled.

Supposedly, much of the team is more behind Starkel and believe he is better player for the team.

You might be right but I was just about to add that it seems reporters talk about Hicks being the better player in the huddle and more vocal on the field.
Having said that, it really doesn't mean much if you aren't a better QB when it matters.

Not a surprise. Hicks was here first, it's his job, until it's time to move on.
Same people bitching dont understand KJ will also play, up to 4 games as well. No reason to complain honestly. Pretty respectable for Chad to give this to Hicks for the contribution hes made. Starkel will be the starter though most of the season, if not game 2. Preserve Starkel and let OM not have much film is smart as well.

quote:Yeah I thought we all expected this. Dunno why some are acting like the sky is falling. Probably his last season of football ever. Not surprising he lets him walk out first against Portland State. I care about who starts against Ole Miss.

Yep. Now thinking about it, I hope Nick doesn't play at all against Portland St. That would leave OM facing our "better" QB with 0 film. Pretty smart if this is the plan. Pretty sure Hicks, pick 6 hicks - as some figs say - can handle Portland St.
figs on here need to go back to HIV. Too much dramatics with some of our fans here.

Being named starter here just means Hicks gets at least the first snap and series against Portland State - nothing more, nothing less.
It's a gesture and that's it. Quit freaking out people, we expected this.

Considering he announced Hicks and then launched right in to how great Starkel is, it seems this is the most likely take and the writing is on the wall for a permanent change later as Starkel continues to learn the playbook.

Yes. It's also 1 game of wear and tear that Starkel wont have. No reason to put the better guy out and chance anything.
