The "Little 8" has one more year...

to produce an SEC Football Champion to avoid four completed decades of only the BIG 6 claiming Titles.
SEC FOOTBALL TITLES BY DECADE:
1980s: Auburn (4), Georgia (3), LSU (2), Alabama (2), Tennessee (2)
1990s: Florida (5), Tennessee (3), Alabama (2)
2000s: Florida (3), LSU (3), Georgia (2), Auburn (1), Alabama (1)
2010s: Alabama (5), Auburn (2), Georgia (1), LSU (1)
TOTAL SINCE THE 1980s:
10- Alabama
8- Florida
7- Auburn
6- Georgia
6- LSU
5- Tennessee
That's a total of 42 awarded SEC Football Trophies during a 39-year period, and not one of the Little 8 has one to claim.
When does this streak end? I just don't see it ending anytime soon.

Why were there 13 SEC titles given out in the 80's?

Jimbo gets it done at least once in the 2020's

You should add Aggy just so they don't get their feelings hurt and RA you.

There were three in 1989 alone. Alabama, Auburn, and Tennessee

At lest these four have won their division
Arky did well
Mizz gets respect for doing it since the expansion.

Probably the safest bet if you had to bet on the most likely scenario of a Little 8 team breaking through that barrier.
However, I just don't think he gets it done.
My guess is that A&M goes 7-5 this year.... next year they probably get to 9-3 because the schedule softens quite a bit, but by Year 3, if Jimbo hasn't taken them to 10 regular season wins, folks are going to realize its the same old Texas A&M.
I think Jimbo at Texas A&M is a lot like Dan Mullen at MSU.... he's going to improve them enough to the point that they reach their program ceiling on a more consistent basis. Mullen gets all kinds of accolades because he essentially got MSU to an 8-4 type program with consistency.
I think the Aggies have a higher ceiling, but I think we're set for a string of 10-2 and 9-3 seasons under Jimbo with no Trophies to show for.
..... just my bet.

It really is hard to see a path within the next 5 years or so that wouldn’t involve something bizarre. I can’t see anyone from the little 4 in the East getting over Georgia or Florida (and neither will UT). In the West, the Miss schools and Arkansas are out and it would likely take sanctions at Bama for A&M to jump them.

I don't think that A&M is gonna jump bama. I think that something can happen in any individual year. Especially if you aren't counting on Saban being there in 5 years or so.

We crashed the party in the 70s.
The big six already got their party wrecked

I didn’t mean over a multi-year period. I meant in one year.

When were the terms coined?
Big 6
Lil 8
Lil 8 had to be coined post mizzaggy. But big 6 could be decades old.

So we’re going with “Big 6”, “Medium 4”, and “Little 4”, I guess?

I consider teams that have not won a national championship in 35+ years to be on the same level in terms of relevance. Welcome to the little 9!
