I’d just like to point out that Ole Miss got to play Vandy every year for 20+ years and still never got close to making it to Atlanta.

No. Nine or even ten conference games. If you are in a conference, you should play the teams in the conference. If you are scared to play them, then get the hell out.

FWIW, I say no to the question not because of UA-ut but because of UGA-barn. Using an old Danny Ford triple negative; Auburn and UGA ain't never not played.

Auburn and UGA have played every year in which both fielded a football team ever since both started to play football. SEC doesn't need to frick that up.

There's just nothing there with A&M. Something definitely needs to change.

You'd need a slight tweak of the NCAA rule on championship games, but they did it for the Big XII, so it would be no problem.

You would need a huge tweak, and it ain't gonna happen. The NCAA still requires a round robin schedule with or without divisions, and it will be a cold day in hell before they change that stance.

NCAA told the Big 12, HELL NO! IMO, it was stupid of them to not go to divisions. At some point, they are going to have an undefeated team, and the Big 12, eliminated from the CFP because of a CG loss to a two loss team they would have already defeated in the round robin.

That's not my point.
Divisions gives 7 teams, I think, 5 common opponents, which makes ranking them easier. That leaves 2 teams from the other division on the schedule.

However, I know DSOR, WLOCP, TSIO, IB, Egg Bowl, TN/Vandy, etc. AREN'T going away. Therefore, UGA has 2 slots always taken, so does Ala., Aub., & Tn.. Fl., Vandy. & both Miss. used 1 slot.

So we have this:
4 with 6 openings
4 with 7 openings
6 with 8 openings

Give me a FAIR & BALANCED schedule format that everybody rotates evenly.

My point is there's a HIGH probability that of not having the same schedule as anybody else. So what are you comparing?

Say, Team A has Ky., Miss., MSU, Vandy, & Mizz...going 5-0..
Team B has UGA, Ala., Aub., Fl., & LSU... going 2-3. You're telling me that Team A should be ranked higher because of their record being better...despite the teams they played?
Also, I've given you 2 5 team schedules with NO common opponents.

My ultimate point is going division-less is more complex to sort/rank teams than with divisions who gives 7 teams 5 common opponents & 1 H2H.

& before somebody says "the NCAA tweaked their rules for B12", they also shouldn't have because everybody met each year.

6 letters: TSIO & IB
Doing that FORCES 1 of those to end!

Because Tn. would dump Ala. for Vandy & Aub. would keep the IB with Ala..

Congrats, you've just ended the SEC's 2nd oldest rivalry - TSIO.

or

Tn. would dump Vandy for Ala. & would put Vandy/Aub. together

Congrats, you've just ended the IB & Tn./Vandy rivalries.

While you at it, let's split Miss. & MSU!

You might have that skewed. Somebody could go 9-0 & make the cg. Say the next team is 8-1 (only losing to the 9-0 team). They also make the cg.
8-1 beats 9-0 making both 9-1 with loses to each other.

WHO gets chosen?

Auburn/Georgia and Alabama/Tennessee should be the only 2 preserved. There's no point in preserving Florida vs LSU. That's not a rivalry at all.

Then why did the two schools schedule each other 36 of the previous 39 seasons? 17-16-3 is a helluva rivalry.

I say we lose about four teams and go back to the way things were for decades.
