I would be willing to bet that Keilan Robinson and Camar Wheaton will be used in ways that utilize their open field abilities, too. Folks need to chill out.

Whether it is speed or not Nick Saban is sending a message to that receiver group they need to raise their game.

A real Edelman type huh? He also scrappy? A real gym rat type? Lunch pail guy? Deceptive speed? Lots of heart?

Who isn't "chill"? We're having a discussion and all I did was co-sign Saban and then got attacked and downvoted (lol) for not sharing group think.

Anyways, I really hope Jojo can come in and make an immediate impact.

I saw the same thing. Any coach I had who spoke like that was trying to Send a message through the media.. Trying to tell whatever group he's targeting to step it up.

Hence why I kept bringing up the speedster who resembles Waddle who has been on campus yet lol.

Maybe the downvotes were from folks who thought you were prematurely writing off our young fast WRs who are already enrolled and working on getting prepared to play.

So, Nick Saban has no sense of humor? (thread)

Honestly I think they are funny and the people who rely on them are very sensitive lol.

It's just funny to me when someone isn't saying something bad, is agreeing with the coach and because he doesn't exactly match your group think the response is negative.

In the end all of this doesn't matter and I just want to win. I'm just smart and experienced enough to know we better have more options than Metchie and Slade at WR. Hopefully Jojo can be that guy.

I mean here is Saban's exact quote:

“I think speed kills on the football field and on the highway,”

“I love to have speed guys. We have some big guys, but we’ve gotta get some speed guys, too.”

The guy is saying very plainly that he feels we either need someone to step up with speed (Leary? Hall?) or we need one with speed to come in and take a spot (Jojo).

Everything Nick Saban said after Alabama's 6th spring practice (BOL | transcript & video)
quote:

ON BALANCE AT WIDE RECEIVER IN TERMS OF PLAYERS' SIZE...

“But I wouldn’t trade the guys that we’ve lost the last two years for anybody. Probably all of them first-round draft picks. So I don’t know that anybody that’s here right now has earned the first-round draft pick. Maybe (John) Metchie, and he’s not really practicing this spring, so I’m not really counting him. These guys all gotta prove themselves. I think speed kills on the football field and on the highway. I love to have speed guys. We have some big guys, but we’ve gotta get some speed guys, too.”

Clicking the image above starts the video right at 9:28 with the question and response on WRs. His message is that he wants our speed WRs to prove that they're ready to play well consistently. I hope they all prove it.

I get the speed argument but I think Slade, Ziggy and Kendall Randolph are probably going to break out and catch over 50 balls a piece this year. Speed is for show but winning football comes with experience. Those guys have it and will make the plays speed can't.

Does Kendall Randolph have any career receptions?

My guess is no.

I don't think so but he has as many as Jojo. The difference is Randolph has that SEC and championship game experience that you can't teach while others just have elite speed. I wouldn't be surprised if that experience and dedication gets him 60 catches this year.

I thought this quote was interesting

Ditto for Cameron Latu. I think that he and Billingsley will be a big part of the passing game early on then hopefully the young receivers will start to make plays.

I know he can throw like Edelman , but can he catch the ball deflected off a defender’s chest with his finger tips right before it hits the ground in a big game ?

Would you use this same logic for every position?

You speak as if they can't learn through experiencing each game in the best conference against the best competition.

The reality is we had a bunch of first round talent (which we lost) and now we need more. Nothing wrong with admitting this. That was why this WR class was so big. We needed to bring in some more big talents. Now it's a wait to see if they can turn things on.

So far we haven't heard too much from the first group. Hopefully they settle and hopefully the last one comes in and shows out.

It is case by case, position by position basis. It may be not as significant at edge rusher or QB. First round talent is great but sometimes experience is invaluable. Those guys will show it this year.
