Some of these numbers are staggering over a 5-year period. The fact that Missouri, the 12th ranked school in the SEC in attendance would rank THIRD in the Big 12 is unreal.

I have a hard time believing teams like Arkansas/OM had over 91% attendance.

Its over a 5 yr period but yeah. I'm guessing Arkansas's has to be just paid attendance. Last couple years have been an empty stadium on Saturdays

I don't think some of those SEC numbers were actual attended, yet tickets sold. There are starting to be some very sparse crowds around the SEC.

SEC will be the last impacted by the attendance issues in football, but I do think it will eventually happen here also. Just too easy to watch at home, and many schools are making it too expensive for the average fan.

The way it is now with cost to attend vs. TV experience, I want to attend maybe one home game per year.

The best fans in college football are Georgia fans... of course.

Yes, aTm, Tennessee, LSU and Bama are 4 of the top 7 or so biggest stadiums in the world.

This has been talked about ad naseaum here on the board. However, ADs refuse to do anything about the biggest pain points.

Look - most of these college stadiums are filled with people travelling from over 2+ hours away. It's a hassle both from a cost and time perspective. If you had free tickets to Alabama-New Mexico State, why go when its on TV? It'd cost roughly 150 in gas, hotel for one night (if you can get it) is roughly 300, parking is 40, tailgating/bars before games are 40-100... it gets up there.

I try to go to at least 4ish a year: the big neutral site opener, one conference home game, one away game, and the postseason game(s). That's more than plenty.

Yes but those stadiums aren’t full any more and it will continue to drop. Even at LSU games you can go for a great tailgating experience and sit outside stadium eat and drink and watch on a big screen TV.( don’t see this as much at Bryant Denny) You can’t really beat watching a game at home. We go every year to Bryant Denny because my boy loves going but it’s never as much fun to me as sitting at home watching with my dad and son. It’s my favorite thing about CFB is my son goes to watch the games with my dad like I did when I was a boy.

I have a Michigan State friend who basically said there are only 5 or 6 teams every year that have a legitimate shot at a national title (the usual suspects) and with success being measured as #1 or nothing it is taking interest away. Was interesting to hear a fan from another school's opinion.

There is nothing like being in a whiteout/stripeout stadium full of cowbells. The good times and good food tailgating. Catching up and seeing old friends. The victory parties afterwards if you are a youngun. and lets not forget the victory lovemaking. Lawd how mercy.

This applies to most SEC teams. I'm getting emotional thinking about it. With all these crazy drivers you never know what day might be your last. The experience leaves a mark and runs through your veins and makes memories. TV doesn't do that.

If you don't get this experience from your team's home games then ya'll are doing it wrong.

As a season ticket holder to Arkansas football, we 100% did not average 65k people last year.

How many years do we have to watch the same teams in the CFP? I think the prevalence of the same 5 schools playing for the NC every year has hurt interest.

This all works for maybe 2-3 games on your schedule, the other 4-5 games are snoozers.

Perhaps. But if you look at it from an Alabama/Clemson perspective, it isn't that fun either (for the regular season).

Alabama and Clemson are 1/6 odds to make it to the title game weekend undefeated. One to Six. Why would I take the time to drive 6 hours to and from Tuscaloosa to watch us shamelessly beat up 95% of our home schedule when I can enjoy from home?

CFB has a big scheduling problem overall. Those 3 cupcake games finally relinquished me from my season ticket duties. I was losing money on them every year.

Maybe the NFL had it right - smaller stadiums, premium amenities... you need to make the in-game experience as nice and convenient as possible to pry people away from 80 inch big screens. People thinking that "we've gone soft," are likely old farts with old school thinking. College Football is entertainment. Meaning, you compete against everything entertaining and must maintain an edge to keep customers.

Saw where UGA was at 100% of its capacity filled. But, they don't have any more plans to expand. In fact, several schools have or are contemplating reducing capacity for various reasons that I've read about...Alabama, Florida (reducing by several thousand), FSU, USC (reducing by 15,000), Penn State (reducing by 3,000), and others I've read about.

TV and the Couch win out.

I'll upvote that. I agree with your post and it is nice to actually hear this kind of post from an Alabama fan, no offense.

There is an interest drain in College Football. Look no further than your own student sections. A lot of them fail to stay for the whole game. Not only is football competing with the big screen at home, but for the younger generation, it is competing with social media and whatever it is that they do on their mobile phones. And that is not only meant for game day, but we have now about 12-14 years of kids growing up distracted on Saturdays by playing online games or jacking around with their phones instead of the natural boredom that comes from being a kid with not much to do which leads to curiosity in new things, like watching a football game with dad. Now they just run off to whatever corner while dad watches his favorite team and the young generation is never really introduced to football... not in any meaningful way. The kids probably actually hate football because they can't play xbox or whatnot.
