Alabama with the casual 11 ten win seasons in a row.

Alabama only had 6 10+ win seasons by 1960. But, Bama's winning 11 in a row is impressive.
Also impressive is OU having 16 10+ win seasons since 2000 (Bama has had 12 since 2000).

LSU was first in 1908 and has only managed 14 more in the next 110 years?

Everyone had very few before then.
10 win seasons used to be very rare, the regular season was 9-10 games long, you had o go undefeated or have a single loss.
They added an 11th regular season in the early 70's and that's when they started becoming mroe common.
Then you had conference title games in 92, then a 12th regular sesaon game in like 04/05.
It's a hell of a lot easier to get 10 when you play 13-15 games vs 11.

OP created this thread just so they could low key brag about being 2nd place in most 10 win seasons...

Who are you, Robert Hartley's twin brother? How much are you charging?

I appreciate the effort though, so I'll allow it.

Really, a couple surprises...

Tennessee - 1938
quote:Tennessee got started kinda late, and has been shut out for almost 2 decades. Yet for the longest time, they were the consensus 2nd best team in the conference... remember they got the overall series with Alabama very close before the wheels fell off.
3. Tennessee - 20

Florida - 1991
quote:Florida basically did nothing until Spurrier got there, then erupted.
4. LSU, Florida - 15
quote:That's a shocker... I thought they had more history than that. I remember them being a legit power in the SWC.
Arkansas - 1964

Scoob….You're right....by 1960, Tennessee & Alabama were tied with 6 10+ win seasons, Georgia and Ole Miss were third with 3 each. LSU had 2.
Florida's 15 seasons were all after Spurrier arrived with no more than 9 wins in a season in their history until 1991.

The current SEC qualifier aside 1899 Sewanee is the real standard at 12-0

I'm pretty sure Auburn went 10-0 in 1957

Some would say that Arkansas football began with Frank Broyles, but I suspect the difficulty travelling to, and from, Fayetteville before I-49 also played a part.

I believe Bama has 38 10+ win seasons and Oklahoma 39.

This is correct. They did not win 10 in 1959. They did win 10 in 1957. I am guessing OP fat fingered it, or just typed in the wrong year. Good catch!

Also not impressive is that OU was in a pretty weak conference. Heck, for that matter OU is still in a pretty weak conference.

Wrong. Alabama has 38 through 2018. OU has 39. Alabama would be tied with OU had not 2005 been vacated.

Oklahoma's 47 game winning streak was accomplished against schedules that had a grand total of 18 teams with a winning record. Only 3 of which won as many as 8 games, those being 1956 Colorado (8-2-1), 1955 Maryland (10-1) in the '56 Orange Bowl, and 1953 Maryland (10-1) in the '54 Orange Bowl. Four of the 18 were 5-4-1.
