The Big 8 was Oklahoma & Nebraska (and occasionally Missouri would have a Dan Devine or Colorado a Bill McCartney and make someone else interesting for a bit).

In 88 seasons of Big 8 football, there were only 18 teams that won the title without having Oklahoma or Nebraska tie them for the championship.

Wrong. Alabama has 38 through 2018. OU has 39. Alabama would be tied with OU had not 2005 been vacated.

I double-checked their complete list of football seasons and counted them again and I found only 38 for OU. Where are they getting the 39th?

As for Alabama, you can't count the seasons that were redacted for cheating and having YOUR OFFICIAL RECORDS CHANGED by the NCAA. I stand corrected on your OFFICIAL total which should be 38, tied with OU. Again, I don't know where OU's getting the 39th, do you?

This would be an interesting second part... "SEC schools with the most 10+ win seasons in the history of being in the SEC"

Have they won that many since?

I didn’t think so.

They list them in this LINK. Scroll down. I counted them and there are 39. They are counting the 1972 season which they were suppose to vacate some wins but didn't.

Bama doesn't count 2005, which was vacated. All other 10 win seasons count.

Oh, ok...1972...OU's OFFICIAL record that year is 8-4. LOL, guess they're including that in their 39th.

Sounds typical of OU people (not as bad as Texas, but still typical).

OP created this thread just so they could low key brag about being 2nd place in most 10 win seasons...

I think it is a low key Florida troll.

I do not want to start a new thread but which SEC team has the most undefeated seasons in modern day football . Let's say since 1950. I do not know the answer.

Considering Alabama runs the world now national championship wise, that stat doesn’t mean much here as it doesn’t result in winning anything lately.

Might have something to do with the fact that between 1892-1920, Alabama only played two 10-game seasons (1904 and 1905). And it wasn't until the 1950s that we started to even play 10-game regular seasons on a consistent basis. The average regular season for Alabama from 1920-1950 was 9 games. And, up until the mid-1930s, if you weren't invited to the Rose Bowl, you didn't have an opportunity to play a 10th game. And we sucked in the 50s, so it makes sense why we only had 6 10+ win seasons by 1960.

Thanks for the research. I did not think that the SEC had many. 14 in 69 years. Very difficult to do.
