2019 NBA Draft: What will the Hawks do?

Outside of the Trae Young selection, I think this draft will be what sets the upward trajectory of the team the next decade.

This team will undoubtedly be a perennial playoff team, but hitting in this draft and turning the Doncic trade into Trae + another star would be huge.

What is the best course of action?

I know I'm likely in the minority, but I'd like to see the Hawks take Cam Reddish at 8 and Jaxson Hayes at 10. If we can make a run to the playoffs with an extremely young (and cheap roster), we can start to make the moves for 1-2 Max FAs.

Would personally not hate making a move for Blake Griffin. Taurean Prince, and the 10 pick is fine by me.

From a FA perspective, I think we should do our best to woo Boogie Cousins. He's from next door Alabama, and think he'd be a great fit here with our squad.

Exciting times to be a fan - think we're going to be the next "big" thing in the NBA.

If they get one solid starter out of this draft, then I would be very happy.

This is the Atlanta Hawks we're talking about.

Yea I’m not seeing it. Couple Trea become a top 10 player? Sure. But he’s only 1 guy. You need at least 1 or maybe 2 more top players. Otherwise, it’ll continue to be pointless. That’ll always be the problem with the nba. It’s the most predictable sports league in the world.

I think the hope is that they nail one of the picks this year and sign a big time free agent. Like you, I remain skeptical since we haven't even been able to get a guy to the negotiating table in free agency in quite some time, much less sign a top guy, but this is the hope (since we missed out on the #1 this year).

Hopefully they could swing that trade that has been rumored. 8 and 10 for 3. Not 100% sure that Barrett will be able to work well with Young because both are ball dominant, but Barrett has star potential.

If we keep the picks, I think we just have to try to hit a home run with both picks. Dont go safe. Dont grab the Josh Childress(De'Andre Hunter) that is going to be a pretty good 6th man for 5 years. You need stars. Go for it.

Cam Reddish, Sekou Doumbouya, Bol Bol, and maybe Jaxon Hayes are the guys Ive seen that could be the boom type of guys.

I really don't like the idea of making the trade... I'd much rather us attempt something like what you laid out on the "boom" approach. It would be one thing if you were making that trade and grabbing Zion, but I don't think there is a scenario where Barrett + Young works super well so would rather try and make sure the draft is complimentary. Just my humble opinion though...

I can't believe the city is on the hook for 142 million dollar renovation to an arena that ranks next to last in attendance. The team should have been moved to Seattle.

I'm not much of a Hawks guy, but it's ridiculous that a city with the money, population, and demographics of Atlanta isn't a top flight basketball market.

And I still want my Flames back.

It’s baffling to say the least. I would take either the Flames or the Thrashers back.

It's not a top-flight market for the Hawks (years of getting fricked over by bad management and ASG will do that), ATL loves the NBA overall.

The Hawks actually had decent attendance last year. They just scaled the size of their arena down.

The years in which the Hawks were competitive, they were consistently in the top half of the league.

The new arena is amazing. I think everyone should go check it out. It's got amazing sightlines, unique to Atlanta vendors, and I love the fact it's in the city. Gives it a "big game" vibe, and, is accessible by Marta.

I love the Braves, but the location of that sterile, bland, chain-mall of a stadium complex in the burbs is just awful. I bet guys that wear PFGs and hate going ITP love it, but the team has lost what made them the Atlanta Braves.

lol, for frick's sake. if by sterile/bland you mean incredible pregame atmosphere, better attendance, and away from the cultured area around Turner Field, then yeah....sterile and bland. Nothing screams Atlanta than walking under the I-85/75 bridge while being serenaded by a homeless dude playing a stolen set of drums.

I live and work ITP and love going to the new stadium.
