ESPN
I can understand going to Japan to make some money, but for 6 years? Good luck to the young man, but maybe Mississippi State was the better option after getting low balled by the Braves.

Stewart is in agreement on a six-year contract worth more than $7 million with the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks of Japan's Pacific League, sources familiar with the deal told ESPN. Stewart was the No. 8 overall pick in last year's MLB draft but didn't sign after the Atlanta Braves, who believed he was injured, offered him a signing bonus well under the $4.98 million slot value of the pick -- around $2 million. Stewart went to junior college instead and was expected to go early in the second round of this year's draft -- and receive an offer of less than $2 million.

It’s pretty smart. He will make more money and hit MLB free agency sooner than he would have if he went via the draft

Braves got screwed in this deal

Wow, smart move. Guarantee of 7 mil. Who's to say he would have ever made it out of the minors? 6 years only makes him 25 when his contract is up.

That’s a tad more than a million a year and he gets to bang hot Japanese women. How the frick is Starkville a better option?

7 million tax free by the age of 25 and you think your dumb broke arse should be questioning him. ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconrotflmao.gif)

guaranteed money is more than any guarantees he was offered last year or would be offered this year. I wouldn't necessarily want to spend 6 years in Japan personally, but from a financial perspective it's a good deal for him. He wouldn't likely be getting a big MLB deal much sooner, and if he does have actual injury issues, then this is a great deal for him. And if it works out for him, he'll get to sign anywhere he wants as a free agent when he's 25.

At his age I'd take it in a heartbeat.Beats getting paid three bucks an hour running a jackhammer.
And who needs a degree if you can handle your seven million bucks in a responsible manner.
Take care of your money and retire at thirty if the baseball is over for you.

Fukuoka is a great city. He’s going to love it. That was my local team when I lived in Japan. They have a great crowd and it’s the biggest dome of it’s kind in the world. He could have done FAR worse.

Make $2m in Atlanta or $7m to go to a mystical land where worn panties are sold in vending machines... let me grab some change.
