Yea, when he blew his knee out against LSU, it ruined his career. I hope things are going well for him now

Saw a piece on ESPN a year or so ago, where they were going through various coaches offices and seeing what all thy decorated their offices with.

Dabo still has an autographed picture of Victor Ellis in his office at Clemson.

He told the story of recruiting him and getting to know him/his family, along with him eventually passing away from cancer. Said it is a constant reminder to him to always treat people the way you want to be treated.

Rodney, Lucky over at that original BOL, and Kirk McNair at Bamamag provided recruiting info the whole year. If you clicked on the profiles at the left in that link you provided you'll find info on each and every recruit. That "recap" was like a day or two after the major recruiting news and articles on signing day. For the record, Orr was the first to use the term "Crystal Ball" to predict where the recruit would land. It's not even that creative, but now nearly every site uses the term.

Milons and Locke were a great combo that unfortunately didn't live up to the potential. Locke ended up at UT, at the behest of his Dad, Juicy.

That was a good class, but as we know, DuBose and his staff, that included one Dabo Swinney, were found to be cutting corners and we paid dearly for it. I won't be surprised if Clemson gets busted.

keep it tight Dabo

If I recall correctly, it wasn't the coaches that were involved with "cutting corners." It was boosters like Logan Young who were throwing cash to recruits in the Memphis area like it was candy that got us in trouble. As far as the investigation went - and again this has been years - DuBose and the majority of his staff weren't implicated in the Albert Means scandal. The NCAA ruled that, while it was boosters who were paying the players, these boosters should still be considered as part of the athletic program. That's how they were able to hit us with LOIC.

Just because the coaches weren't as stupid as Will Wade doesn't mean they didn't know. Of course they knew.

edit to wonder where is the piece of shite Tom Culpepper these days

oh well, all that led in a meandering way to Nick Saban, so I guess all's well that ends well. Culpepper is still, though, a piece of shite. I have a picture on another computer of him embracing a smiling Phil Fulmer after the UA vs UT game the next year.

Meh.

Everyone was doing it in those days. Albert Means was being offered money by multiple programs (that in of itself is an NCAA violation) but we were the only ones to take a hit because Tennessee cut a deal with the investigative committee. Fulmer hated that he was constantly losing top recruits in Memphis to Alabama and took measures to get us smacked with major sanctions. Hence why I couldn't care less if Tennessee ever gets out of the rut they are presently in. Karma's a bitch.

Wasn't Ronnie Cottrell and Ivy Williams somehow caught up in that whole fiasco?

It was overturned he won $0.

We were buying players and not very good ones at that. Half the kids we paid for from those 1997 to 1999 recruiting classes never made it to school or played. Mac Tyler, David Paine, Harold James, even Gary McNeely was paid and we got nothing for them. I think James showed up for Summer practice but was ineligible. McNeely got kicked off the team because he liked to party more than play football. Brings back lots of memories

Remember David Payne,he never played a down for us but wanted to defend us against the NCAA. He was willing to testify that we never paid him but Tennessee and others were offering him thousands for his services. NCAA never took his testimony because they said 10rc was not under investigation Alabam was.

I posted a few times. I'm not gonna roll my sleeves up and get in the middle of that stuff. I'm not educated enough on the topic to argue

One of the other recruits was interviewed by the ncaa investigator and, when asked if Alabama offered him incentives, replied no, but that Tennessee had done so. The investigator informed him that Tennessee wasn't the program being investigated.

I remember getting really excited about that class after one of the recruiting "gurus" was interviewed on the radio and said that Tyler Watts was the best QB to come out of high school since Peyton Manning.
