Did you ever imagine Freddie Kitchens would be an NFL HC?

For those gen x and older Bama fans, back in 1996 or 1997 did you ever even think it would be possible Kitchens would be an NFL Head Coach? I’d bet anything that probably never would of happened. I remember Freddie in 1996 Tennessee game and 1997 Auburn game.

Absolutely not. I thought at best, he would own a little sports bar somewhere

No but I have hoped that he would become a very good coach that might want to return someday to UA. Not sure what kind of recruiter he'd be or if he's like it. I think Perkins would have eventually been a very good college coach but some coaches just don't like it.

All I know is I loved that fat fvker as a 11 year old in 1996. And I still do.
Freddie and Deshea Townsend. My 2 favorites.

For years, whenever we would have a standout qb, it was a reg joke to say, “well he’s no Freddie Kitchens!”

I didn't, but I also knew the sport well enough to know that coaches tend to emerge from the most unlikely places.
Who knew that one of Coach Stallings' walk-on split ends would win two natty's as a HC, against his alma mater, who had the best HC of all time?
The game of football has a peculiar sense of humor.

Checking in . . .
And no - while I always liked Freddie on the field (and was at the game when he lined up *gasp* in the shotgun and drove Bama down the field to beat Auburn) - he never seemed like the cerebral head coach type.
I do wish him well though.
