Yeah but no one was offering outrageous contracts back then.
It's crazy how much it's gone up. And everyone else has to do the same to keep up with the Joneses. Same with facilities.
9 mil+ is still fricking crazy. I understand they're a basketball school, but I'd say the same for a football coaches salary.

6 Elite 8s (if we win tonight it will be 7)
8 Sweet 16s
No coach in that time span has that success in the NCAA tournament, including K and Roy (besides 2 titles).
He is worth every penny...the university enrollment has grown over 8,000 since his arrival and campus has had over $4 billion improvements.
