I hope you are right. The one thing I am a little skeptical of is that both of these great hires (Hurley and Oates) were made by Danny White, now AD of UCF, who has proven to have a very good sense about such things. He was also the same guy who took a flyer on a division 3 football coach and really turned that program around as well.

Bama hiring a high school coach who runs a fast paced, Mickey Mouse offense

Well, it's basketball, so we're not exactly entitled to our snooty high horse like we are in football

Yea I was about to say - your football coach hire seems to have been brilliant.
Is the new AD from White's former staff or an outside guy?

Really good hire by bama here.
SEC just got tougher.
LSU better not frick it up and better ride it out with Wade are we are not going to be competitive for a long time.

I didn't know this. Man White has quite the track record. We can laugh at the national championship thing, but Hurley, Oates, and Leipold (sp?) at Buffalo and Frost, Dawkins, and Heupel at UCF.
The jury is still out on Heupel, and I'm not that high on Dawkins but that's quite a list.

It's some guy from Memphis. The AD after him, Greene, was actually pilfered from us by Auburn. So if ya'll could kindly develop your own coaches/ADs and stop stealing them, it'd be much appreciated.

Yes and even though it is possible Hurley did the evaluations and targeted the Sr's on this squad he never coached any of them. They aren't the 4 and 5 start can't miss type recruits. These are players that had to be and judging by the results were developed. That alone is a huge upgrade over AJ whose players seemed to actually get worse the more time they were on campus.

Better keep him away from her. That's a sure fire way to wind up with another Shula

I was going to be VERY disappointed if nobody capitalized on that one

quote:You may be right, we don't know. But it feels a damn sight better to can an expensive arse HC ($3MM/yr) who had already proven he couldn't do better than mediocre. Avery didn't develop the talent he brought in, he didn't have a solid philosophy or scheme, he couldn't adjust his scheme/strategy and the shite was hard to watch as a fan.
Tony Barbee and Anthony Grant had their mid major programs in the tourney as well. You can say this is a great hire if you want to but truly nobody will know. This guy has zero experience recruiting in the South East so I highly doubt he’ll be able to get some good players in a season or two. Then the fans will gripe in 4 years and fire him. Rinse and repeat until they get them a proven coach.

Oh please. Stop being so sensitive. There hasn't been much to knock y'all on.

I hope he is good for y'all but the hand he’s being dealt sucks. If Petty and Kira both leave he’ll have to get to work finding some solid guys.

He's no good anyway though. Amirite?
I wasn't really following the Matta rumors, but why would people be so big on him after a three-year downward trend at Ohio State, when the B1G is hardly a basketball conference.
