You’re right the beers got me.
Point is it’s almost time to start looking up too see if we can earn home field instead of looking down to see if/when we can clinch a division title.

They’ve hit Soroka, and they’re throwing way inside on Acuna.
Braves now have two 10 game winners in Fried and Soroka.

Bryse needs to make a statement tonight.

They are, surprisingly, within striking distance.
Realistically though the Dodgers would probably have to play near .500 ball the rest of the way for the Braves to catch them. That would put the Dodgers at 96-66. However their current win projection is 103-59 (based on various analytics) and their current actual rate (based on current win %) is 106-56!! So the Dodgers would have to cool off significantly and the Braves would basically need to stay hot the last 60+ games. I think the Braves can maintain current win pace, but I don't think the Dodgers are going to cool off that much. Not confident the Braves can get to 100 wins which is what it is probably going to take.
Will be fun to see them give it a shot though.

It definitely feels like teams are starting go up and in more on our youngsters. There’s no excuse for Soroka getting hit twice already.

Lol Phillies just blew the lead on a 3 run bomb in the top of the 9th.
Hopefully we can get our bats warm tonight.

As the poster said above, at this point we might should be pulling for the the Dodgers to lose more than the Phillies in the outside chance the Braves could get home field if the Dodgers hit a slump.

Well frick. The Phillies came back and scored 3 in the bottom to win.
I’ll pull for the dodgers to lose any other day. I want to see philly burn.

looking ahead, it looks like we will likely see a rejuvenated Allard pitch this weekend, maybe Saturday.

I’d like to see Allard again (I think).
On another note Bryse doesn’t seem to have electric stuff. He’s still young of course, but I don’t see him with many K’s, so maybe he can work on keeping it low in the zone.

FYI, I said "rejuvenated Allard" because I thought I had heard that he was doing well this year, but then I went and looked at his numbers and came away unimpressed.
I did hear that his fastball was a tick or two faster this year, but who knows...

Man Riley is struggling bad. 5 of 30 in his last 7 games plus today. A .166 avg.
6 of 58 in the last 16.
18 of 112 in the last 31. Of those 18 7 have been homers.

Riley has a nearly 34% K% against a 5.4% BB%. Almost no one can make that type of profile work long-term in MLB outside of maybe Javier Baez of the Cubs.
His pitch selection and overall plate discipline is pretty terrible. A lot of the time it looks like he makes up his mind to swing before the pitch is thrown. He hits the ever-loving shite out of the ball when he does make contact, but he has to be more selective and start working counts.
The good thing is he did run a decent BB% in the minors and he's super young, so hopefully he'll be able to make the adjustments and get back to mashing. He also tended to struggle at each level of the minors early on before eventually figuring it out, so this current slump isn't terribly surprising. If anything his red-hot start in the majors was pretty unexpected.

Riley is doing exactly what his minor league career indicated he would do. hit a lot of homeruns and strikeout a lot. no real surprise here.

Breaking balls are killing him.

somehow the Nats managed to lose to a 29-win Orioles team last night, so we are still up 6.5 lol.
These late season head to head matchups are so ridiculously important. After this one, I don't think we play them again until September where we have a 2 week stretch where we go 4 against the Nats, 4 against the Phils, 3 against the Nats, 3 against the Phils consecutively.
Being up 6.5 right now, here are the possible results from this upcoming 4 game series:
Braves sweep - up 10.5
Nats sweep - up 2.5
Split - up 6.5
Braves win 3 - up 8.5
Nats win 3 - up 4.5
Basically what I'm getting at is we really just need to avoid the sweep. Typically I'd say that it's loser talk to plan ahead on how many losses you can afford to have, and a WS contender shouldn't be thinking that way, but I'm not liking the way the pitching matchups are looking.
Soroka faces Corbin on Friday, which I obviously like, but otherwise we have Teheran/Strasburg, probably Kyle Wright against probably Scherzer, and then probably Gausman against whoever the Nats are running out there.
If we just win the Soroka game, then I'll be disappointed but still feeling ok about the standings.

actually I'm seeing that Wright was scratched from his start last night and might go tonight with Julio/Soroka pushed back a day.

Yeah I am just hoping for a split against the Nats.
