would love to see Folty as the closer...like Smoltzy, or maybe Gause if not Newk if they dont make a trade for one. Gause in the closer role may like it....I would like him there to be honest!

ok - i'll ask...why hasn't Duvall got pulled back up??

The OF and bench are full. Personally, I think he might be being kept as trade bait.

but we have a struggling LF,

Acuna is back in left, so that fixes the offensive slump from that position.

a RF with 9 HR and lacks Def range

Kakes' has been a bit of a mystery to me this year, but it looks like range is not so much of an issue with him as opposed to his positioning. (That's based off of some of the more advanced defensive Sabermetric stats which a lot of the people much smarter than me say are "off" this year.) My biggest concern with Markakis's defense has been his inability to hold runners from going from 1st to 3rd.

and we brought back up a hittless CF...what gives???

Ender's defense is still pretty damn good. Having Ender in CF and Acuna back in left should allow Kakes to position better in RF (possibly helping with the 1st to 3rd issue???) I have no justification for his bat though. At the end of the day if he doesn't start hitting the ball the Braves have plenty of OF options.

Yeah, the best part of the 4 game series by far. And I guess we can say 4 more games down and we didn't lose any ground on our lead.

Very encouraging to see Gausman throwing well. Folty did well in his last start in Gwinnett also. They’re trying to perfect his slider before bringing him back up.

Something I didn’t think about is if Gausman comes back healthy and effective, that’s basically like adding a pitcher without giving up any type of assets. Looking to just add a elite closer and more depth for the pen.

I think Folty returns to be the 3/4. I’m guessing our rotation to be something of the effect of Keuchel, Soroka, Folty, Gausman, Julio with Fried getting spot starts to get everybody an extra days rest. All while limiting Frieds and Sorokas innings.

I edited my entire post because I jumped the gun. I think he was talking about Enders bat and not Markakis lol.

You mentioned MadBum couple posts up. I honestly don’t think we need a starting pitcher if it’s going to cost an arm and a leg. Now I’ll pay whatever for an elite closer though.

we can win the division easily with what we have. we need better starters to win in the playoffs, though

We do need a starting pitcher

Whether MadBum would be worth what would be required for a rental is a different question

If Gausman can pitch even close to that level that he threw on Sunday night, we have our pitching rotation for a 5 and possibly even a 7 game set. I just don’t see the need versus the value. Especially if all these wildcard teams don’t sell like they all projected. Just gonna drive the Stroman and Boyd prices even higher.

Starting tomorrow a 5 game set would be:
1. Keuchel
2. Soroka
3. Gausman/Julio.

All this is basing off Gausman of course.

I’m starting to think our offense is gonna be the deciding factor in the playoffs not the pitching. In a 7 game set, we’re gonna see at least 2 of Ryu and Kershaw and Buehler once. They are going to have to put up runs.

We’ll see if they pitch Folty next series and try him out. Gausman was a welcomed surprised last start. If they call up Folty and he does well I think they go 2 bullpen guys.

Bullpen is back to being atrocious after some time being serviceable.

This bullpen is going to cost us the division and a playoff spot.

There are certain guys who should never be allowed on a big league mound if a game is in question. Wes Parsons has repeatedly proven to be one of those guys.

Austin Riley has become a huge black hole in the lineup. Hate it for him but it's time to work in Camargo, Culberson, Ender, etc more. Unfortunately I'm not sure we have the luxury of letting Riley work through this kind of slump. He looks completely lost at the plate.

Also I've seen enough of Wes Parsons. Is ERA is deceptively okay but you just cannot bring this guy in any kind of high leverage situation.

one of the things I've noticed is that the organization will give an infinite number of chances to guys that are on the 40 man roster before they finally decide to cut them loose. I'm with you, I've personally seen enough. Hopefully they have as well.

and honest
