could care less about the basketball program? Just finish above 500, fill up some seats, keep the program clean and make the tournament every so often.

I think the employees of the athletic department care about it a lot.
I don't think the majority of the big money boosters give two shites about it.

Who do you consider to be the "powers"? If anyone in the AD were to publicly say that, then I would forever be done supporting Alabama athletics.

It affects football recruiting. Need a great basketball program for the prospects to go watch

Most of the big money donors to football don’t give a rats arse about the basketball program. There is a subset of basketball boosters that do but they had to literally threaten Battle with cutting off their money if he didn’t fire Grant when he reluctantly did. I’m sure the university’s position hasn’t changed.

And - I do think Byrne cares about basketball a lot. However, his ability to make moves and do things is really, really small if the guys who give the money won't hand it over for things like a new arena or firing a basketball coach.
There is only so much the AD can do with a small pool of cash to operate.

Byrne’s agenda for March:
1) Walk into Avery’s office and tell him he’d better be calling his friends at the Pelicans because his days are numbered. He can leave now and take the $3 million he is owed after April 15th or he can wait it out but at 12:00:01 AM on April 15th his arse is fired.
2) Walk across the hall to Curry’s office and tell her leave now, Madonna Thompson is on her way and Curry’s services are no longer needed.
3) Call Sarah Patterson and ask her who she would recommend to replace Dana Duckworth because she’s not getting it done. Hang up the phone and call that person immediately and offer him/her the job. Show Dana the door.
4) Send a very loud and clear message that Built by Bama signifies elite quality only and mediocrity will not be tolerated as a representation of our university in any sort of competition whether on the athletic field or in the classroom. We want to be THE BEST at every thing we do.

I'm not as plugged in as I used to be, but I can say 15-20 years ago this was NOT the case. Alabama basketball had some very wealthy and powerful backers back then, and I don't see any reason why that has changed. Maybe the success of football has changed that, but I seriously doubt it.

My interest isn't what it used to be. Grant and Avery have lost a lot of fans like me. I used to make the drive to Coleman to watch home games but no longer care to do it. I truly wish I had something to get excited about but I saw Avery' s ceiling in year two.

All the awful basketball teams at Bama while Saban has beem there hasn't stopped him from getting a ton of number 1 recruiting classes.

I will be really interested to see how the renovations to Coleman go with the Crimson Standard deal. It sucks that it will be another few years before they even get started on that but if it turns out to be another lipstick on a pig renovation, then our basketball program is doomed.

there's not that many power schools in NCAA gymnastics. If Byrne has done his research, he'll know that UCLA's elite program's coach is retiring and putting the Bruins in the market, making it a terrible year to try and make a splash hire. I do feel like 2020 will be Duckworth's first real year on the hot seat if things don't at least show signs of a rebound.

Based on the questionnaire I got for it, that's exactly what it's going to be. Basically adding club level seats, and that's about it.

You know there is some stupid azz people in the AD complex and that is proven by the buyout amount for a average to below coach. We're to assume those F academics thought someone would come hire Avery away from the U of A?
C'mon Man.

They aren't spending $110 million just to get club level seats.

At this rate, they'll prob. offer Dabo $15 million per year after Saban retires.
