2008 - UF vs. Bama - 358 total yards, 31 points; no turnovers
2009 - State vs. Bama - 213 total yards, 3 points; 3 turnovers
2010 - State vs. Bama - 299 total yards, 10 points; 2 turnovers
2011 - State vs. Bama - 131 total yards, 7 points; no turnovers
2012 - State vs. Bama - 256 total yards, 7 points; no turnovers
2013 - State vs. Bama - 197 total yards, 7 points; 1 turnover
2014 - State vs. Bama - 428 total yards, 20 points; 3 turnovers
2015 - State vs. Bama - 393 total yards, 6 points; 2 turnovers
2017 - State vs. UGA - 280 total yards, 3 points; 2 turnovers
2018 - UF vs. UGA - 275 total yards, 17 points; 3 turnovers
Averages (10 games):
283 total ypg
11.1 ppg
1.6 TO per game
Obviously this looks incredibly favorable for Kirby, but how much of this can we chalk up to the talent differential between State and Alabama over the years? When State had Dak they put up much better numbers as far as yards go, but still didn't put up a ton of points against the Bama defense. Even over the last two years, Mullen's offenses didn't do great against UGA averaging 10 points.
How much do we expect this to change over the upcoming years and what percent of it is going to rely on Mullen finding an elite QB at UF?

You seem nervous about Mullen. You should be.

Kirby Smart seems to own Dan Mullen like Jeremy Pruitt seems to own Gus Malzahn.

There’s no denying Mullen is a great coach and that UF will for sure get better under him, but this is going to be the key for them. Mullen is a monster when he has a perfect QB for their system. He did wonders with Franks this past season, but I don’t think Franks can be the one to lead them to the promise land. They seem to really like Jalon Jones though and he seems to fit their system perfectly, so maybe he will be the one. Either way this series got a lot tighter with the Mullen hire and brings a lot of excitement to the WCLOP. I went to the game in 2017 and all the gator fans kept saying before the game “ I hope we can keep it close with y’all”. I promise you that mentality is over.

Thank God Mississippi State, Alabama and Georgia are all on the same level in: Prestige, revenue, spending, education, location and fan support!
Also how nice to pick a year where he didn't even have his own Quarterback and a team that previously went 4 - 7.
I mean, them playing on even ground is definitely what makes this work.

This comparison will never work. Mullen was at State, and Kirby was at Bama for most of it.
One gets constant 5 stars on defense and the other is a mid tier SEC team that HE made relevant.

In addition to talent discrepancy, are these defensive results due to Smart's coaching ability while at Alabama or should it be attributed to Saban. I'm not saying Kirby isn't a good coach, but what defensive coordinator hasn't had similar results while coaching under Saban.
