A few new leagues are about to launch. One is the Pacific Pro Football League. They are different than the reboot of the XFL etc. They have endorsements and are targeting College and High School student not yet eligible for the draft.
To compete, Alliance of American Football (set to kick off in Feb and already has TV contracts) and the XFL (kick off in 2020) may have to meet that standard.
If the PPFL takes the top talent out of HS, and the other 2 follow suit, Where does that leave the NCAA.
We are looking at 1 and done OR none at all. Why? Because the PPFL is paying for them to relocate, paying for 1 year of college while paying them a salary, benefits, retirement while they prepare for the league.
LINK
EDIT to state that the PPFL will NOT hire anybody eligible for the DRAFT.
Only players that are not eligible for the draft will be hired.
EDIT:
Let's look at a different angle. The 5 stars and upper 4 stars won't all bolt for that. The lower 4 stars and upper 3 may.
That puts a huge gap between the Bamas and hawgs of the NCAA.

"Our player population, for example, will be players such as Trevor Lawrence at Clemson," Yee said. "We would like to make him an employment offer, professionalize right away. Be our Joe Namath. Adidas is one of our founding sponsors, and I think they might want to make him an endorsement proposal. And he would be professional, and he would learn an NFL style of game with us before he declares for the draft."
The league is scheduled to begin play in July 2019

Clemson is paying Lawrence way more than the AAF and XFL could. And yes the same goes for the best players at Bama

I think this will eventually translate into turning the college game into a true paying league.

Knowing Trevor and his parents...they are going to be very disappointed if they try to get him to do anything shady or that has any appearance of impropriety.

It may.
I think it damages the major teams, the top 10 to 15, and will level the playing field in the short term. Then it slowly degrades the product.
If you remove the "5 stars" it trickles down. At some point we will have Bama with 3 and 4 stars, Ole Miss with 3 and 2 stars. etc etc

I don't like the way this is headed

Clemson plays way better than these minor leagues so that's not happening.
Plus he's breaking new ground as the first transgender quarterback in cfb and I know that means a lot to him.

Not following that. It's a professional gig. The same as a basketball player coming out of 1 year of college. Endorsements and all.

It's not minor. It has major backing and sponsors... They could make players instant millionaires. I know many players who would forgo college to make 500K to 1.5 million per year for 3 years to play football

Curious to see how the NFL would eventually handle those players in the future...

Ehh, yes and no. There are what, 30 five stars a year? 200 or so four stars a year? Five hundred three stars a year?
Sure it'll trickle down, but there's enough "middling" talent out there that the "second class" universities won't dilute too much in talent. Furthermore getting the "late bloomer" type recruits will give random teams an edge every year.
If the top, 50-200 or so recruits end up going professional instead of going to college CFB will be a much more paritied product.

I don't think most 17-18 year olds are physically ready for the NFL. You may lose some of the skill positions, but areas like the lines still need that time to mature and develop I would think.

Not looking at anything.
Unless the owners are a bunch of billionares that love losing money the league will last 3 years max.
Why would these guys leave college for a non guaranteed
contract and give up the best training, coaching and development in football?

I hope this doesn't become a common thing

Where are you getting this information? The AAF max is 250K and XFL average salary is 75k and ALL are non guaranteed.
So this new league is gonna start giving out 1.5 million contract?Without a TV contract? They'll lose millions.

Im assuming if they dont make it and their is no coming back to be a scholarship athlete unless its in another sport? This might not be as good of an idea as an 18 year old thinks it is. There is such a small amount of players that are able to make a long nfl career.

CFB has always been the minor league system the NFL didn’t have to pay for or worry about. CFB was ameuture so they didn’t have to really pay either. I am 100% for free market options and competition. When you turn 18 you should be able to play professional football and these leagues are giving guys that chance to and develop.
Obviously, this is going to hurt CFB which in turn hurts me as a fan, but I’ll never fault these leagues or the guys who choose to play in them.

To be fair, this wouldn't be him signing a contract on the sly with an agent, then hiding it so that he can play while technically ineligible. This would be him leaving college early to adhere to said contract, which is why it is being made public.

Maybe in the very short term but unless Adidas and others are prepared to flush millions down the toilet their model is unsustainable.
Every "developmental" league that's existed in team pro
sports cannot exist without subsidies.Minor League Baseball,NBA G league,Minor League Hockey and NFL Europe all lose/lost money and were either subsidized through parent clubs or the parent pro league

According to the PPFL, they can enter the draft like normal college players.... 3 years out of HS
