Our defense has suffered multiple injuries, replaced 6 guys in the secondary and doesn’t have the experience and talent we’d like to have right now. They are good for about four series before good offenses have them figured out. From there they can stop a sneeze against a decent quarterback. Last theee games pretty much proved that.

Saban will have them back. Only so much to do when injuries locusts feed on your defense.

Quit griping about Saban and players.

Tosh was probably in over his head. Locks is gone.

Defense will improve, but offense will likely regress some if we don’t have some people really step up on the O line

If you don't think we have had a talent dropoff from the last few years, you are watching these teams with foggy fan goggles

I suspect the offense will be exactly the same.

The defense needs a total overhaul of scheme and personnel.

Need players spending more time on game film than Twitter. Need the coaches to tell Tua what to do. We would have had a game plan and by God he would have stuck to it.

We were the second best team on the field. There's no arguing it.

This spring or before fall I want to read where on defense #4,#30,#32,and #99 have been beaten out for starting positions. The offense carried this team in 2018 and will have to do much the same in 2019. The problems on defense in 2018 where there all along but we didn't really have to play a great offense and the Bama offense was scoring so fast that even the better teams couldn't keep pace. Hell I would move #99 to the same spot at #47 and let the guy rush the passer since he can't play the current position he has of today.

I sure hope they can add some power run blocking back into the mix. I have my doubts as to whether this offense can win a championship if it's not tough enough to line up and get a yard or two when the game is on the line; in years past they could line up and still get the first/td even when everyone in the stadium knew what was coming

We did that plenty of times against Clemson with Jacobs. The issue was that the same package that routinely converted short yardage 3rd and 4th downs was abandoned when we got near the goal line.

Correct, but I guess this is also kind of what I'm talking about. Why does the offense have to line up in the Wildcat to get a yard? What happened to being able to get some tough yards out of the base offense?

First, you can't possibly be talking about offense at any position.

Secondly, regarding the defense, I see the difference as that we didn't have the depth that we normally have, and the depth we did have (OLB) got crucified with injuries. I think this was one of those rotational years similar to 2013, but not as bad.

Remember that we lost our entire starting Nickle from last year, and then were down 2 starters in that rebuilt and young secondary for the Title game.

Most teams who lose what we lost from last year and then suffer the injuries we suffered go 8-5. Bama went 14-1 and flirted with best season/team of all time.

The sky is not falling. As a matter of fact, we just nearly won it all in what is a down year talent-rotation-wise overall for Bama.

The rest of CFB should watch out.

Is it as much a talent drop off or too many years in a row where everyone waltzes into the program thinking they will just coast to 3 straight national titles and a first round draft pick as some kind of given

Our defense was clearly a step backwards this year from prior years. Our offense largely covered for them. They were good, but not great.

Our kicking game has been horrible the whole year. We missed like 9 extra points, had one of the worst punters in the country.

We got TONS of stupid penalties this year. We threw away more points off of boneheaded penalties this year than past years by a wide margin.

Those problems were looming all year and eventually did us in.

I remember Coach Saban talking about the defense before the season . Saying we may have to outscore people. Also when have you ever seen Coach Saban going for it on 4th down on our side of the 50 in the second quarter? Years past we punt an run the defense out there to stop them . We were young this year . We will be ok . Sky isn't falling . Gotta give Clemson credit they played a good game. I don't feel like they dominated us as bad as the scoreboard reflected. We moved the ball, just couldn't stick it in the end zone for what ever reason . I think this was a great coaching job by Coach Saban , he was able to keep this team together with all the drama at the Q B position . Got to give Hurts some credit also tho. He handled it as good as I think anyone would have or could have .

This is very similar to when Eddie Jackson got hurt in 2016. The defense was never the same without him but the young guys got to play a year early and were great in 2017. Saban and Tosh has to disguise major holes the moment Diggs went down. It worked until the final game.
