Being very similar situations, we were fairly critical of Barnett when he decided to leave, but Georgia fans are absolutely ripping Fields apart right now.

I know that Fields has some outspoken family that haven't exactly helped his image, but damn, they are LIVID over his decision.

the race thing is the difference...not even the same situation.

Edit - why am I getting downvoted...Fields is the one using the racial slur as his argument to get a year back!!??!!

Kirby lied to him about how much he was going to play to get him to sign, it cost him a year of eligibility, and he's going to go scorched Earth on his way out the door. Personally I find it hilarious.

No similarities at all. Fromm was the established starter when Fields committed. He played his role as the backup throughout the season, but clearly was promised more.

Barnett got beat out by the true freshman and took his ball and went home midseason. Definitely apples and oranges.

I aint even trying to get into the fan response though. That's also apples and oranges but no need to even broach those subjects...

To be fair we would be as bad or worse.

I mean, it's not the EXACT same situation, but both were highly touted, and both were expecting to be THE MAN.

Both ultimately ended up as backups to an established starter. Both transferred. How are there "no similarities at all?"

My point is is the fan reactions are pretty different. I'm trying to give our fanbase a pat on the back here

Situations are waaay diff bruh. I agree with you like 99% of the time but I just think you may be giving our fans a little too much credit on this one.

A more appropriate comparison would be be Tua to Fields & maybe Jalen to Barnett. Both our guys have proven to be extremely classy and both weathered pretty extreme circumstances in their short times on campus. And most importantly, both guys are certified Bama legends.

Just remember, Jalen was trashed waaay too much by some of our fans from day 1 and I know we would have seen some embarrassing stuff if he would have handled things like Fields or Barnett for that matter. Tua had to sit through some tough situations last season but he was ready when his number was called when the stakes were the highest (4th and 11 vs 3rd and 26? j/k)

Anyway, let the UGA fans be who they are and just be glad we have our guys...

I've been impressed with Jake Fromm since his first game against Notre Dame last year. And he's played fantastic against Bama the last two seasons. Fields may have a high ceiling but Fromm is a stud.

This.

I've always maintained that had Hurts, simply not existed, we'd have been ok with Barnett. not great, but fine. That he'd most likely be another John Parker Wilson or even McElroy. I'd have to think that jelling more with the playing time and working with our coaches would make him passable.

But watching the USF Marshall game makes it look like we dodged a bullet.

Ummmm no.... if Blake started that whole year who knows how many games we lose! He's that bad..... in that game vs USC we literally couldn't get anything going

Any highly touted QB transfer would have similarities.
Bama has had others to go, and largely fans have wished them well. Same with Georgia, I'd imagine.
The difference with Barnett, IMO, was that he posted something about if you can't hang with it, go ahead and transfer, etc. And then he transferred himself. May have ruffled a few feathers about PT, but largely just left.

Fields, apparently, isn't going quietly, and that is what is aggravating Georgia fans.
It'd be the same at any school when a 5 star leaves complaining aloud.

the strange thing is that Fields has requested to stay on the team through a meaningless bowl game, so I dont know that he is being all that negative.

As Greg McElroy said, just because you can throw the ball from one end zone to another doesn't mean you can play quarterback at the college level. There is a lot more involved than being a bottle rocket launcher.
