Maybe what's missing from this discussion is that Fromm is a superstar. He drove out the all-world, best of all time Eason as a true freshman. (Remember Eason?) Now he has driven out the all-world, best of all time Fields.
Maybe Fromm is just really good and these guys realize that they aren't even in the ballpark of beating him out. And they don't want to sit around and wait for him to leave, especially since that's two more seasons at minimum.
Of course, even best case scenario for Fields, he still doesn't get to start until 2020. Unless he drops a division...which probably wouldn't be the best move from a development standpoint.

He was never given the opportunity to run with the full offense or throw the ball in any meaningful game. Hell, most of the time he was never used more than one play at a time to get us a first down.
The truth is Smart had no plan for developing Fields, and misused him badly. He even admitted he had no plan.

Idk absolute best case he would have blown the coaches away in spring and fall camp and Fromm and fields split equally starting in 19. In those split snaps, he looks better and starts by October.
I just don’t think he was that close to starting like every one thought he was. There is no evidence to support he was close to supplanting Fromm. He was thrown in every now and then as a wrinkle, no more.

Then next time the superstar should lead his team to some points in the fourth quarter. If he did that, we would have two SEC titles and a natty. Fromm is a very good QB, but superstar is a bit much.

Everyone thought coming into this year that Fields and Lawrence were pretty equal. If Fields were anything like Lawrence it would be obvious. I’m not saying he had to win the job but he sure as hell didn’t do what a #1 or #2 QB should be capable of.

The dude owned Bama in the SECCG, it wasn't his fault we lost. Fields is great but he seems to target one player and then runs if said receiver is covered. He just didn't really have a chance unless Fromm got hurt

Blue shirt isn’t a big deal. He just comes in a couple of months later because he’s using a 2020 scholarship rather than a 2019. He says they emphasized that it was business and not them thinking any less of him.
