“Oklahoma has given up 421 points in 13 games this season. To find 421 points given up by the Alabama defense, you have to add up the combined points allowed in the last 31 games, dating back to the 2016 Iron Bowl.”-Ben Jones’ Twitagra

I still don’t understand why people say Alabama’s defense isn’t good? They are actually quite good, just not 2011 or 2016.

Are people saying that?

They'd look a lot better on paper if this was a classic Bama offense that ran the ball more and had four or five 8-minute drives per game.

Thanks for info, do you know how many possessions both teams have averaged per game?

I dont have that in front of me but I know that Oklahoma averages around 65-70 plays

Exactly. Is there stats on offensive possession completion? i.e averaged 14 offensive possessions per game. On average how many of those drives ended in a TD, a FG, punt or turnover? Vice versa for the defense.
When I see this game playing out in my mind I see more of our drives consistently ending in 7 points vs their mix of 7 & 3.

I go back and forth between thinking OU is going to score 50 points, and we're going to shut them down pretty well.
Me too.
As much as I think it’s going to be a long game, I really think we’ll have a good idea early in the 2nd quarter. Either we’ve made some stops and are well on our way, or we haven’t and it’s going to be a dog fight until the end.
Ultimately I think deferring to the 2nd half is huge. If we do that and are up something like 28-17 with 2 minutes till half, it’s done. It’ll be 42-17 before they can touch the ball.
