Was the offensive Alabama performance an indictment on Longo ball?

It's obvious that there are SERIOUS issues with the defense and the coordinator McGriff. However, it seems like a lot of the offensive success is smoke and mirrors.
Which is strange, because leading into Alabama game, I believe Ole Miss was ranked 1st in offensive performance in the SEC. I've been very skeptical of Longo's game plan working against traditionally decent SEC defenses.
I remember how, rightfully so, the entire fanbase was disappointed in Freeze's decision to hire him right after his offense at SHS was shut-down by JMU. Which should have been a major red flag.
His offense is like the Shea Patterson of offenses. Gaudy stats against nobodies and barely a whimper against average-to-good defenses.
But worse than McGriff, there is no lack-of-talent excuse. This wasn't a great Alabama defense/secondary, and even if they are better than currently believed, there was absolutely no reason to go scoreless in garbage time against their 3rd+ string defensive players. Especially considering the NFL talent present on that offense.
That's why when fans/media make comments like, "Well, Ole Miss will be able to put up points.", I feel like responding, "Really?".
Leading up to the Alabama game, even conservative fans/media were predicting 20+ points. However, based on past precedence, anywhere from 0-7 seemed most likely. And I was correct.

I think the Alabama defense is just outright better than our offense and they were told all week about how we were going to score on them. They were actually fired up to play us. But that’s not an excuse for how poorly we played. If Longo can’t put up points on bama with this offensive talent then who the hell is he going to go get that can? We had our chances and Ta’amu missed a few open throws but come on. No excuse to be shut out at home except for one play.
ETA: if everyone else in the SEC gets shut out by bama he’s fine but I doubt that will happen![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)

I more or less agree with every issue you raise about Longo but I also agree that Alabama was extra pumped up to play this game. Longo deserves the rest of the season before the jury is out.

Failure to game plan. It was the same offense used in the first 2 games against an opponent of a different stripe. There should have been more passes in the flats and more slant routes. Bama D is good, but we should have been able to put up more than 7 points.
But yes-if Longo can’t adapt his offense to different defenses, then he should go.

We went into the game with our typical offensive gameplan which is to throw hail Mary's. It worked pretty well to start the game but after the 1st play they figured out our gameplan and adjusted

Honestly after SHS got destroyed by JMU we should have just hired James Madison's OC and DC and forgot about Longo and Mcgriff

I would say it’s not. Bama jumped on us so we pretty much had to abandon the run half way through the first quarter.
Our o line got blown up by Bama. Bama is just better, doesn’t matter what the scheme is. If you put Longo on Saban’s staff that offense would be unstoppable. Our main problem was defense. It’s really hard to expect the offense to lay it all out there when they are down 28-7 after 1 quarter. They pretty much knew going in they had to play perfectly to even keep pace with Bama. Not even to win, just to keep pace. That is a defensive problem.

Alabama is a very good team and we should not get up in arms towards Longo’s offense by any means. Longo Ball has won us 8 of 15 contests thus far despite having a horrible defense

Longo's playbook only has about 20 plays. It doesn't take an SEC defensive staff long to prep for it. This is why a real defense eats up our offense.

Wrong. And the fact that his team lost to a very good JMU team two years ago is a tired excuse for wanting the guy gone. Aside from bama, his O has put up points against everyone, which is difficult when the D is sucking so hard. I am particularly impressed with the way Jordan Ta'amu has progressed. Its not every team that can lose a quality starting qb and not skip a beat. Some of that needs to be credited to Longo as well as keeping the NWO egos in check.
