This worries me. Saban basically saying that he's waiting for someone to separate in QB race. Really? Is this just a smoke screen? If Tua hasn't separated himself yet from Jalen then we might have some real concerns...I just find it hard to believe...

Read between the lines. He said a key part that plays into it is we may need to outscore the other teams this year instead of depending on our defense. Jalen can’t even outscore his own defense....so what does that tell you?

He's literally describing Tua. He's just playing games, don't worry.

All these insiders say the gap is wide , etc. evidently not or Saban playing games. I will continue to say Hurts starts until he doesn’t !

“Both guys (Jalen Hurts and Tua Tagovailoa) are playing pretty well, so we’ll just keep going and see if anybody separates,” Saban told ESPN on Tuesday.

I didn’t see that part in the article...

There was more to the article when I read it on mobile, may be a different article. But he said we may need to score more this year to help the defense, and we need the guy who best distributes the football to the skill players. Both describe Tua.

I think everyone is overthinking this.

Tua is the better QB. Tua has been better in practice. Saban will do what Saban has always done and give noncommittal coachspeak about the QB Battle until the Louisville game. Tua will start against Louisville.

Simple as that. Write it down.

I spotted that. That would obviously be everyone's first assumption but the scary part is Saban may think Hurts is just as capable somehow. We honestly have no clue what Saban thinks. This is the man that started Hurts last season over Tua to begin with. All I'm saying is if it was crystal clear who the starter was and Tua was just that much better he would name him the starter. Many will disagree with me on that but that's fine. It would be detrimental to your team and your QB to keep playing these games with the media and splitting reps with the ones if it were that clear. I just don't see Saban putting on this act if there was no contest in his eyes. I hope I'm very wrong.

Tua wasn't ready and while Jalen didn't really improve there was still reason to believe he would during the season. Jalen had "won the team" already, Tua was a newcomer. Tua should have replaced Jalen late, but Tua probably didn't "win the team" until bowl prep.

You know he wouldn't.

According to Coach K on twitter who goes to scrimmages Tua has 7 TDS and 0 Int and Hurts has 2 tds and 3 Int. No separation yet? Geez

Yep, I would have been surprised if Saban had said something else honestly.

Some of you need to watch baseball or work or play with your kids between now and September.

This is not the Zapruder film. Just chill out.

It wasn't crystal clear that Tua was ready to start against FSU.

LINK ]Saban says scoring ability will play a factor in QB battle (BamaOnLine)

ETA: Reliable BOL insider -- "When the media leaves Tua is the guy. Saban keeps Jalen ahead in drills...but when they leave Tua is up 1st and has gotten most the 1st team reps."

And we believe Daboll over Saban now? Saban has had multiple offensive coordinators at Alabama - from Major Applewhite to Mike Locksley. Only two of them left after just one season: Applewhite and Daboll. Applewhite left for Texas because Saban told him he wasn't the right fit for the offense he was trying to run. I think Daboll was probably told something similarly at the end of last season.
