All I'm reading is an incredibly biased single source who has a clear incentive to say whatever it takes in order to follow his old coach to Arizona with immediate eligibility. And most ironically, his claim is that he willingly accepted the cash knowing it was an NCAA violation and is now using his own NCAA violation to try to claim a hardship waiver. That is absurd.

Also note that he says he never actually used any of the money on these recruits. How convenient. If he had spent it on recruits as instructed there would be others who could either vouch for or dismiss his story of having several hundred dollars to blow on recruiting parties. Also, how much sense does it make that the coach would continue giving money to this kid to host recruiting trips if in fact he wasn't doing a good job of showing them a good time?

No credible journalist would have touched this story ten years ago. This is shitty reporting.

Marchiol said the money went toward drinks and snacks, but he had no record of the cash or purchases made with it and kept whatever wasn’t spent. He said he did not give any of it to the recruits.

Sounds like Marchiol got some impermissible benefits.

They accepted the self-imposed scholarship reductions and first bowl ban,

What's the difference if they self-imposed or the NCAA gave them both? The NCAA handed out harsher penalties/restrictions. Did you want the Death Penalty for Ole Miss?

The last few probations for bama, and the last one for LSU, they got no bowl ban/scholarship reductions. Hell, bama won at least one NC under saban while on probation.

Auburn has been on probation once since the last time UGA won a NC. That is a longggggggg time.

In a summer of domestic abuse, sexual assault and deaths. I really don’t give a shite about a kid getting cash. Yawn

Did you read the rest of the article?

Nobody cares about the cash. The other stuff being alleged is dangerous though and needs to be taken seriously.

The culture being described isn't that different than what was going on at Maryland. Borderline abuse, mishandling injuries, violation of practice time requirements, over exerting athletes.

Compared to a Kevin Sumlin practice environment, that's what actual hard work felt like to someone like Marchiol.

Wait so there’s not actually an NCAA investigation going on. I feel lied to and cheated.

Nah, the NCAA won't pay a bit of attention to a former player saying he was given cash to spend on recruits.

The coaches evaluating talent, when they weren't suppose to be there, is no big deal either.
