You're missing my point. She's not calling out her parents, his parents, the police force, or anyone else that I can tell. She's essentially saying "I told LOTS of people, and I blame Coach Meyer and his wife because they didn't step in to stop it" as though somehow him having or not having a job was going to be the deciding factor in whether he was a spouse abuser or not.

Is Urban Meyer a piece of shite? Yes

Should he have fired him if/when he knew? Yes

These things aren't what I'm questioning... I simply find it strange that the only person she seems to be allocating blame to is Urban Meyer, his wife, and his staff and their spouses. I understand that he's the most public figure, but at what point do you look at your own family and say "why didn't you help me" - and that's if we go ahead and absolve her 100% of any responsibility for her own safety and the safety of her children - which while a bit of a double standard is totally understandable still. This shite happens *way* too much, and I understand there are crazy emotional complexities at play that wreak havoc on what would normally result in the logical decision to remove oneself (and family) from the element that is a danger to them.

In no way does this serve as any form of excusing Urban's behavior... just a sincere question as to why she feels that the blame rests squarely at his feet.

I don't disagree. I mean... I see how they *can*... but I don't think that they could do so reasonably with a clean conscience.

I don’t think she’s saying this is all Urbans fault; how do we know she isn’t privately casting blame at others? But she is saying to the public (given that urban is a public figure) that he is culpable, he knew, and rather than protect her and her kids he chose to protect the abuser because... loyalty? This is a non issue if Urban says no comment at Media Days. But because he blatantly lied about it, it seems to have rightfully pissed her off and now she wants to see people that protected a wife beater get called out for doing so.

I wonder if the wife could sue the University for covering for him. If she brings a lawsuit you know Urban is gone.

She 100% can sue. Can she win? I see a settlement in OSU's future.

Actually, SHE isn't saying anything about Urban.

Brett McMurphy did the digging and wrote the story. She is just answering his questions and providing the information he needs to write his stories. He is a sports reporter, so that's the angle he's taking on it.

Plus, if he takes Urban down, he probably won't be blogging on his Facebook page anymore. He may be trying to turn this into another high profile gig.

He's an ex-ESPN reporter in the middle of a non-compete and already has a gig after it ends.

By participating in the interview and providing text messages and photos, she makes the story credible and possible. McMurphy has an angle too, no doubt, but this is all an opinion piece that nobody reads or shares without her participation as an interviewee. I doubt she’s just sitting around answering questions and then saying ‘why do you ask? I’ve put it all behind me and have no ill will toward anyone’

Except for the quote that started what I was talking about all along. If she was just speaking generally, I wouldn't have found it odd.

quote:

"When somebody is crying out for help, I believe the coach, along with the coach's wife, have a duty," Courtney Smith said in the Stadium video. "They have a duty to do something to help, instead of worrying about winning games, or instead of worrying about who his mentor is and who his family is and trying to protect that, somebody's safety and the safety of their children and the environment they're in needs to be more important."

You can play semantics and say she didn't name him, but there is no doubt about who she is calling out. I'm not even saying she's wrong to do so... just that the outward appearance is that she feels like it's his fault. I think it's a bit more nuanced than that is all. Lots of people clearly share in the blame...

I suppose this is fair. I was probably looking at the statement a bit more in a vacuum of X happened to her, this is her response, but yeah... I can see how him going on at Media days about "not knowing" might spark a bit more of a reaction.

So no proof.

We’re in the #metoo era, womens’ accounts of abuse and who they might’ve told are taken much more seriously now.

As others have said, should tOSU stall and/or not do anything about this, their games will be protested every week, Urbz will be asked about this rather than football every week.

It will become a huge distraction to the program, if not a circus.

Who's to say she didn't look at her own family. That's not reportable info. The story is OSU and maybe, just might possibly, the sports reporter decided to focus on the sports aspect of the story. If he saw texts to her aunt Pam, cousin Jim, or neighbor Dwight asking for help it really doesn't matter when it comes to the direction of the story.

How is this relevant to the OP?

And why does the comment have nearly 70 upvotes in a thread about covering up domestic violence?

And why does McMurphy continuously bring up Title IX when the accusations have absolutely nothing to do with sexual abuse?
