So, is the Landshark thing officially dead?

Since the end of 2014, the peak of the Landshark extravaganza, things have seriously went south.
In 2014 Ole Miss allowed 329 yards per game (14th in the nation), 4.67 yards per play (7th in the nation), and forced 32 turnovers (8th in the nation). They led the nation in PPG, surrendering only 16.0 points per game.
Now, over the past 3 seasons combined, they have the 102nd ranked defense, allowing 434.2 yards per game.
Opponents are scoring 30.19 PPG since 2015 (92nd in the nation).
Their run defense has been atrocious as well, allowing 204 rushing yards per game (105th in the nation). UMass and Idaho have had better run defenses over this span.
To make matters worse, they allowed nearly a mile of rushing yards to Fournette on like 6 carries in the middle of his NFL Redshirt Tour. The following year Guice tried to one-up him.
Will we see a phoenix-like revival for the Landshark defense under the tutelage of defensive guru, Wesley McGriff?

LSU ended the Landshark defense. TCU raped them when their guard was down.

I think the mystique was dead once people got in the habit of calling them the Landshart defense.
The losses to the worst coach to ever last 5 years at Arkansas (the statistics back that claim up) probably helped put a fork in it as well.

They are more like baby nurse sharks in the tank at Surf Style souvenir shops.

This is what happens when you have no linebackers and your best DE weighs less than 240 lbs. Also knee blowouts have taken their toll to key positions.
Not sure if I can ever remember having as little faith in our defense as I do now. Benito Jones will be good but other than that we are fricked.

El oh el, no they didn't. They were doing that 5-6 years before aTm ever darkened the doorway of the SEC

Sometimes there are bigger predators out there

yes, it is amazing the number of LB's getting a free ride that are not SEC players....hell, they can't stop a nose bleed

We have a couple of good defensive linemen and a solid safety. After that, there isn’t much defensive talent in Oxford at the moment.
We have some serious issues stopping the run. Our best defensive day will be one where we get a decent push up front, harass the QB, and force a few turnovers. Otherwise, teams are going to score on the Rebs this year, especially teams that control the tempo and pound the rock. With that said, the Rebel O can put up some points too.

Unfortunately, no. Our administration will unveil an "on the field landshark mascot" for this coming season, giving tRant additional amusement throughout the season.
