Better Program: Mississippi State or Ole Miss

This is a conversation that will always merit great debate, but in the eyes of the rant, who has the better program? I know Ole Miss claims those titles in the sixties, but who knows whether they are legit or not because there are many other teams who claim titles for those same years. Meanwhile Mississippi State does not have any claim to any titles. That being said, Mississippi State has actually won the SEC West and been ranked #1 for many weeks in the CFP Powl, while Ole Miss has only been a west "co-champion" and only got as high as #3 on the CFP Poll. So what say the rant? Who is the better program?

Historically and potentially, Ole Miss. Currently, State.

I see this stat referenced a lot. I don't think it holds much weight, but I applaud state for reaching that poll position in 2014.

Last 25 years State has been the better program and owns the series record 13-12. Nobody cares about who won in 1955.

From 1900-1946 State was the better football program.
1947-1973 Ole Miss totally dominated this era (21-2-4) which is the basic difference in the rivalry today.
1973-1990 Ole Miss continued to have the upper hand but State started to turn the rivalry, particularly w/Bob Tyler at the helm. Ole Miss screwed up in 1970 by not promoting him as the new HC. State grabbed him in 1973 and the history of the rivalry changed forever. (albeit slowly).
1991-present State has had the upper hand though it is close. But in the present day State is the better football program.

Ole Miss has more players in the NFL who had pictures of himself with a bong gas mask leaked and admitted to receiving cash from a coach in college, all in the same night, on national television, at the NFL draft.
Flagship.

I’m 34 and in my life State has been the better program. All of the historical achievements for Ole Miss at great but since I came of football watching age in the mid 90’s we have been better in every sport

Ole Miss has more wins, more head to head wins, more titles (national & conference), more draft picks, more 1st round draft picks, and spend more time ranked.

Ole Miss has much, MUCH better history and a higher ceiling.
State is a little bit better currently.

What makes the ceiling higher?

I don't see it, either. I think both could be a great school, make a few big games (NY6), and then have your coach bolt for the big time programs who will offer more.
