I suspect that it could go into the legal system where I doubt that the SEC could actually stop the gameful employment of someone not found guilty of a crime...however, we all know that no school in their right mind would take it that far.

I mean what power does Sankey have in this situation?
The article quotes the SEC by-laws that give the commissioner final say over a hire of an individual whose actions resulted in disciplinary action at another school. The Commissioner has to sign off in that situation and has the authority to reject it.
Obviously Sankey is pissed at Freeze and Ole Miss and views him as to toxic to bring back into the conference.

No but it just rubs me the wrong way. Freeze doesn't have a show cause as an assistant so he should be free to be employed in that capacity by anyone who wants to hire him.

Not really......a coach that gets into serious trouble can bring some pretty serious issues to the table....not the least of which is additional reputational risk to our conference.

It's obfuscation. They're blocking this very public thing so they can go on cooking the refs and flying chem trails over Knoxville and Red Stick without suspicion.

I've often wondered what people think they are seeing in that gif. What do you see?
I see the ref spotting the ball at his foot marking the down, then looking back at the first down marker, moving his foot up past it, then moving the ball to the new location of his foot.
Why would he look back at where the first down marker is? What does that have to do with where the ball is spotted?

Ah yes Phil Fulmer: the SEC's shining beacon of integrity. Thank God we have men as such as Fulmer in leadership positions to guide our conference.
5 NCs and 11 straight wins over us and Phil still gives you a sandy vagina

Regardless, the Commissioner has a vote or final say in a situation like this. Sankey is obviously unhappy with Freeze and the situation at Ole Miss. Bottom line: Freeze was head coach and this happened on his watch. Their problems affect all of us indirectly: the bowl ban costs us money, the reputational hit the SEC took over this, lost revenue that normally would be generated by Ole Miss, the fact that a member school is gutted by probation and scolly reductions makes the conference less competitive, the impact on the school itself.....on and on and on.
Freeze was at the center of all of this and Sankey doesn't want him in the league. Imagine if you will that LSU hired him and he gets LSU in trouble? Now we have two member schools whose programs have been cratered by the same guy. Sankey isn't willing to risk it by letting him coach in the conference.

That's a risk LSU should decide on for themselves, not Greg Sankey.
I don't want the SEC to have their own little mini Goodell

Well we do...there has to be a commissioner and senior executive and final arbiter of these matters. Otherwise instead of Sankey, your defacto commissioner would be Nick Saban and your league office would be Alabama. Is that what you want? Because we would turn into the Big12.
Again, Ole Miss' problems affect all of us for the reasons I just stated. LSU, for example, could hire Freeze and stupidly blunder into probation and now we have two Sisters of the Poor that the rest of the league has to carry. Sankey isn't going to risk it.

i'm not saying don't have a commissioner. but IMO the role of the commissioner should be a) increasing revenue and b) ensuring a level playing field. Making the call for a school on whether or not coach X should be on staff is something else entirely IMO.

Exactly. This was the SEC office assuring Saban that it will be really hard to overlook his tactics if you make things blatantly obvious. They know better than to say no.

....and the Commissioner does all of that.....but that is not the entirety of the purview. Eligibility, NCAA compliance, issues with a member school and the NCAA, among others are his/her chief responsibility as well.
Sankey doesn't tell schools what they should do with respect to hires or fires. However, when a coach is involved in serious misdeeds and malfeasance, particularly at a member school, that is an entirely another matter because the consequences are felt by ALL the member schools.
