Ok tell you what. Let NBC news get on the air, interrupt prime time TV, announce an emergency alert that a nuclear missile has been launched via Russian submarine targeting New York City, all the while knowing it is a complete hoax when they do it. See if they are protected by the constitutional freedom of the press from all the consequences.
So, now are you trying to say that if a news agency deliberately tells lies (i.e. knowingly commits fraud) their conduct might not be protected? Well, that's completely different from what you said, which, for the third time:
quote:
Constitution guarantees freedom of the press. But when newscasters are giving opinions/agendas that aren't news, then they aren't protected
Is still fricking nonsense.
Fraud: Not protected.
Reporting of the news: Protected.
Opinion: Protected.

I loathe Trump but I would still go.
Jimmy Carter was the worst President of my lifetime...which goes back to Eisenhower.
I still jumped at the chance to meet him a few years ago when I had the opportunity.

Jesus Christ dude, you really have a problem with critical thought. Where is the fricking world do you get that idea?
The idea that you can't (or, giving you some credit, won't) grasp the idea that actors, singers, athletes might have some background or context that supports their opinions -- even more than whatever your trusted sources are, and that putting athletes and actors and musicians in some sort of box as opposed to anyone else seems to be your goal, identifies you as someone who is more interested in creating a filter system than in understanding the world.

Opinion here is the gray area between fraud and news. You know good and well news outlets are intentionally crossing the line.

You made my point. You wouldn't go to an athlete, so why in the world would I want to read or hear his opinion on it?

Nutshell: I do not want to hear about Sean Penn or George Clooney's opinion on the President, yet they want to give their opinion every time they interview, it seems. I simply do not want to hear it. Why you can't understand that people (Most intelligent ones, anyway) don't care about their favorite singer, actor or athlete's political opinion is, is beyond me.
What I am saying is....if they want to throw their opinion out there, so be it. And I will give them my opinion by not listening to their music, watching their movies/Television shows or watching them play.

I'm not going to get in the middle of y'alls discussion, but you don't think Dan Rather's portrayal of George Bush's military service was a lie? I mean, even after he was told the documents were forged he continued to push the story.
Or Brian Ross' report that Flynn was going to testify against trump causing the Dow to plunge 350 points?
Those two are just off the top of my head.

One example is reporting exit polls results. These numbers are unverifiable. But they can influence election outcomes by encouraging/discouraging West coast voters to go vote/to not bother to vote.

Fine, you caught me. I'm just an FDR-style democrat that believes in pragmatic solutions over partisanship. Jackbooted socialist sounds scarier tho.

165 Upvotes....Thread promptly becomes a political slapfight.
Kind of sums up our country today. I thread about being nonpolitical turns political.

We can't even joke about politics anymore. Everyone is either too serious or too bitter about it. The question is where do we go from here? We have to find our way of the partisan trap we've built for ourselves somehow and yet neither side is going to give an inch right now. It will probably take a major crisis to pull us together and even then I don't know how long that would last.

I'll say this much. The moment an athlete, actor or a musician on either side of the political spectrum starts putting their agenda ahead of their entertainment value then I stop buying their shite.
Bruce Springsteen for example can EBOD. So can Lebron James, Colin Kaepernick, all of em. Any any republicans who do the same shite.

I'm to the point now where I'm skeptical of anyone who claims to be a straight line dem or repub. Both parties have their positives but both horrible negatives as well.

Sadly, I agree.
It's time to abandon the 2 party system. There is zero chance that one of two parties can adequately represent 330 million people. We need a panel of 12 Presidents who make up the Executive branch of our govt. Congress is another clusterfrick.
